Well, she's done with Canidae For some reason the Poopanut has decided she no longer likes Canidae - wet or dry. :( I've been having a hard time getting her to eat it for a couple weeks now and the past few days she has just flat out refused. I guess the hunt is on for a new food. I bought her 4 cans of Merrick. I gave her the wing-a-ling this morning and she ate some of it but didn't seem all that impressed. I also bought the cowboy cookout, puppy plate, and the wilderness blend. I'm thinking about emailing Evangers and requesting samples, I just need to figure out what to say in the email - lol. I just don't understand what went wrong with the Canidae. She used to just gobble it right up. |

Evangers Pheasant and Brown rice dry - the kibble are the smallest I have seen. What's great, is that it is an ALS, just like Canidae. Sometimes when her appetite is a bit "off", I will mix it with a half tsp. of Merrick's Grammy Pot Pie.... tried the others, this is THE one she likes. Most feed stores, if they sell the Evangers, will have small packets available as free samples. Give it a try. It's as highly rated as the Canidae, I believe. My senior, 12+ year old Granny Spanky, on the other hand, would eat just about anything that would fit in her bowl, and then some.:p Bless her ancient heart and creaking bones. She is on Canidae Platinum for seniors. Good luck with the kibble treasure hunt:D Lauren Edit: it's so funny how you call your baby "Poopanut".... Mango has been called "Poopadinks" or "Poopienuts" since her first day home in Feb this year.:p:p:p But keep that a secret, I would be toooo embarrassed to tell anyone else. |
I didn't know Evangers was ALS. It is definitely next on our list then. LoL! I've called Susanah "Poopanut" since the day I got her. Sometimes I call her "Poopienut" as well, and "Poopie Nuttie" too. LOL |
Avery has kinda been acting the same way about her food.. We feed her Candiae also, and she has been on this since she was a baby!! She LOVED it before..she will still eat it(and some days seems like she still really likes it!?)-but then there ARE other days when i will need to tell her to eat, or put a couple pieces of kibble on the ground to coax her into eating, etc.(We do free feed.. and i still want to continue doing this!!) Like i said, there are other days when its no big deal and she will eat with NO problem. ? and when she eats.. she is a lil Muncher(unless, she is just wanting a lil snack:p ;)) She does need to have a couple teeth removed(2 being her k9) i think they could be bothering her a little bit.. so i dont know if it is the canidae or just her?? i Really do LIKE canidae ALOT!!..so i would like to keep her on this.. but i know there are a couple others that are really good/high quality, etc. too that i have seen and liked(but havent done FULL research on them..cuz i have always been so happy with Canidae). we will see.. i will watch her for a little while longer, and see how it goes. ;) -Let me know what you end up switching to.. and how that goes!! thanks. and good luck!! :) -Oh and Lauren.. do you get your food from the YL feed store?? did you say they had samples of the Evangers??(How funny.. we keep discovering Mango and Avie are more and more alike all the time. haha.:p our lil zoomie queens..hehe:D) |
I emailed Evangers today. Hopefully they will send samples. *crossing fingers* We've been trying the Merricks and she just isn't that impressed with it either. |

Avie and Mango can now do zoomies :animal37together AND graze on each other's kibble.:animal36 For all of you Mommies with fussy babies like mine, try the Evangers.... I think besides being SO palatable, they also love how tiny the kibbles are. |

Yep! This is EXACTLY what my Stedman did with Canidae. He was eating it just fine for a while - then he started looking skinnier and skinnier and I paid VERY CLOSE attention to how often he went to his bowl and ate as I free feed, so the food is always down....and it wasn't alot :( He just lost total interest in it and decided that he didn't like it anymore, the little stinker! Tatum on the other hand, well...she'll eat anything you put in front of her  She's my little oinklet :p |
I feed Cali Merrick's dry..if you want, i can mail you a sample of some of her food so you can see if the little poopanut likes it! Cali did the SAME thing with Canidae..after one bag..she was DONE! |
Why don't you try the pre-made raw like Natures Variety or Primal? I only say that because that is the only thing that Kalina will eat with gusto and abandon. Count to five and her plate is empty. It's so easy to use too. I take out 2 pellets at night and put in a ziploc bag and by breakfast they are thawed. After breakfast I take out 2 more pellets and by dinner they are thawed. Periodically I give her a little bit of green tripe and a raw bone to munch on. You can even use the dehydrated raw when you travel and all you need to take is a little baggie with a few of those pellets in it. Kalina went through the "won't eat kibble" stage with everything I tried. Now she eats great and is active and looking good. |
Maybe she just got bored of it? |
