Got a question for you prey-model feeders ;) Have you ever heard of feeding cow placentas??? Saw somewhere that a person was going to be feeding their dog a lot of cow placenta once calving season started.

Michelle,

I do feed green tripe (bovine stomache lining); but haven't heard of feeding placenta. Of course, I haven't read allllllllllllllllllll there is to prey model feeding, either. The RAW list moves pretty quickly; but, I'll post your question there and see what kind of feedback we get.

thankyou! I'm really interested to know... I've never seen any fresh green tripe around here or I'd probably buy some to give occasionally. I have bought solid gold canned green tripe before but I ran out and the store here has had trouble getting any in. So we've been tripless for several months now :(

With raw, you don't really need to do supplements. I've been giving Juice Plus for Dogs, just because...I'm sure she'd be fine without it. I also give a vit. E/fish oil supplement. I use Eicosaderm by Dermapet

Thanks! Does anyone know of any Vitamin E supplements, or is any fine? I really like the convenience of Eicosaderm though, as it has the fish oil+vitamin e

I'm blessed to have a supplier locally; but, I've seen this site mentioned on another list. I cannot vouch for the quality, as I've not purchased from there, however.

That placenta from cows sounds nasty.WE are in a big dairy area here and they have calfs year round.My boys girlfriend lives on a dairy farm and milks 250 cows she would look at me if I was nuts if I asked her to save me some.lol

For my thoughts, there are too many other sources than to go with this - even if someone I trusted told me it's OK! I mean, I can barely feed green tripe. That's some naaaaaaaaasty smelling stuff!

Thanks..yeah, that makes sense. I doubt too many mothers would leave placentas lying around for dogs to eat. Thanks

I saw that post! It made sense to me.

As for green tripe.. I still have yet to experience that.:rolleyes:

Why exactly do you feed it? Whatever nutritional value it has, can you find it in anything else?

FEW!!! it took me just under 3 hours to read this entire thread...with diversions into other websites and taking notes...im actually kinda sad it is all done!!:p

so obviously i am considering a raw diet and this was my first research into it. i must say that almost all of my questions were answered! (if they werent, i dont remember what they were..too much information in my brain now!! lol) thank you so much to everyone in this thread for all of the helpful information!! this must be one of the longest threads ever on YT :p

its funny that out of all of this, the only question i have left is an unimportant one...dont the "feeding towels" cause a lot of laundry?? lol. do you change them every meal?

anyway, i'll likely be back with more questions as i think of them. thanks again! very helpful info from everyone!!!

Alana, this thread represents opinions/experiences from both pre-packaged RAW feeders and a few (like myself), who feed Prey Model RAW.

LOL...well, yeah...I can see where that would be a concern. :rolleyes: (j/k!) If it's not a real messy meaty meal, I change each day. I just sort of fold it up, after the first meal (I'm trying to get mine to once a day, now) and then pick it up after the evening meal. I have many feeding towels, so I can afford to wait until I have a laundry basket full, then wash a load.
