Have tried everything Hello I have tried everything to get rid of these biting very very small fleas. I have used borax, terminator came to my house and precor spray. I can't use anything else. I am vacumning and cleaning like a mad woman. I do not know what else to do. Do the fleas live in really cold weather. I read that they can't survive in really cold weather. The fleas are attacking myself and Rockie not my daughter. Can someone respond please. |

sounds like you need to bomb your house with the flea stuff to get rid of them...:( |

I have bomb so many times. I vacumn 2 to 3 times a day:( I have really done everything possible. Rockie has frontline plus and I check for the adult fleas and have not found any. I find only the really small ones.. They attack me. I am just really doing everything that I can. |

I'm not sure how much I can help, but I'll give it a try. Sam hasn't had a single flea and heaven knows that fleas love the weather in Seattle! First, I use a good insect killer like Ortho Max on the grass. That is supposed to kill ticks, fleas, ants, and others. Fleas love beauty bark it could be a problem if you have a lot of that and it stays moist. Treat all of your bark. If you can really reduce the numbers of fleas outside then you should not have problems bringing them in. My brother uses Frontline on his dog, but he has a big Lab. It is just a drop that you put on their skin and it goes into the dog's bloodstream. Any fleas that bite the dog die shortly thereafter before they can lay eggs. He no longer has flea problems with his dog, but I have read that Frontline can make a small dog like a Yorkie sick. I would definitely check with your vet on that. If they are already all through the house, the only thing I have heard of working is a good bug fogger. Then wash all the bedding and vacuum very well. Make sure you are all out of the house when you use the fogger. Last time I used one was 15 years ago so I don't even know if they are still around. Good luck! |

My vet gave me the frontline to use on Rockie. I applied over half not all of it. When you bomb your house did you have to turn off your gas. The fogger I used it wasn't necessary to turn my gas off. Can you tell me where you purchased the fogger from. Thanks alot. |

I know that they live in your vacumn bags. So you do need to throw those away everyday. Quote:

I have the dirt devil featherlite bagless upright vacumn. I throw out the content in the container everytime I vacumn. |

If you put a bowl of water with dishsoap (dawn is my fav) in it and leave it under a heat lamp at night..you will catch hundreds of fleas!! A bowl of vinigar also works...I am using it right now with my himmy and her kittens and its terrific!! Dawn |

The exterminator only killed the adult fleas as does the Frontline. Obviously, you still have eggs hatching in your carpet. I had a terrible problem with fleas this year. Frontline stopped working for me. I switched to Advantage for my cats and K9 Advantix for Lady. What really got rid of them though was treating the carpet. I got Adams Flea powder for carpets. It's the only one that works for me. You need the carpet powder, not the spray. Work it into the carpet with a broom and let it sit for 24 hours, then lightly vacuum. The eggs will continue to hatch for about 10 days to 2 weeks, but that will kill them. I have two bombs here that I didn't have to use. |

I'd call the Vet and check on the bombs. I hope you get rid of them soon. |

Home Depot has flea bombs. The don't have a lingering odor and are safe to have the pets come back in afterwards. You can also sprinkle boraxo along the walls and under sofas, beds and such. Does't hurt the pets and can be vacuumed up in one day or a few. Put 20 drops of rosemary, lavender or eucalyptus oil in the pets conditioner or shampoo. |

Electronic pest devices I've used electronic devices with fairly good results. Well, I believe they work -- it takes a few days. I had some I bought yrs ago, that really worked, so I went on a hunt for newer models. I bought an electronic thing at Ace Hardware that said it got rid of mice & pests - but when I called the company to ask about ridding fleas, their standard response was it hadn't been tested on fleas. But I kept it anyway & I think it's working. This is their website - I got the 2000 model http://www.global-instruments.com/prod_pc.htm I think I paid like somewhere between $26-$29 for one I thought about getting one from this website - it's says it works on fleas. http://www.electronicpestrepeller.com/flea_control.htm it looks good - but I didn't want to wait for it to ship I have also bought black & decker models - they sell those at Target (couldn't find any at walmart) These come in single, double & triple packs. I got a double pack - I think it was like $15 -- but I almost feel like one of the companies that specializes in these things is the way to go instead of B&D - but really I have no complaint with the ones I bought They all seem to say they may or may not work for each individual & if you have a bigger space you need more of them - like potentially in every room - well I think rooms that have furniture & carpet where fleas reside when not on something breathing I just sent this a couple of days ago to someone in a PM that had asked me about them when I posted about having pretty good luck with these electronic devices. I figure keeping mice, etc. out of the house is a plus too. Just be careful as they can't be used around hamsters, guinea pigs, other rodent type pets. |

I have heard that if you want to kill fleas in the vacuum, you gotta put some mothballs in it. Be careful that your pup don't get the mothballs as they are really poisonuous. |

You will never get them out of your house, if you don't first, get them of your yard. Here's how you do that, and if you live in So. CA, you can do it now. I really try to not use chemicals on my babies, so this is what I do. I realize that some people have large yards or there may be other reasons that this won’t work for everyone, but here goes…… Beneficial nematodes are the answer to flea control in your yard. Read more about them here http://www.marchbiological.com/L/ben...nematodes.html They are microscopic organisms that feed on a variety of soil insects and they will keep fleas, etc. out of your yard. If you have fleas in your yard, then you will never get them off your baby. Of course, if you live in an apartment, then this solution won’t work for you. Also, that does not mean that your baby won't get a flea when they go on a walk or that a flea might crawl over into your yard from the neighbors yard. But that can be controlled by bathing your babies in Dawn dishwashing soap or some other non-toxic method. If there are no fleas in your yard, then you CAN win the battle. The nematodes will also keep the fire ants out of your yard and that is a great benefit to those of us who live in the south. I have used the nematodes for 6-7 years and have not had a flea problem in all that time. I have outdoor dogs living on both sides of my yard too. The nematodes work great! You can usually get them at any organic gardening store. They can also be ordered, but they must be kept cool or they will die, so if you order them, be sure the supplier plans to cool ship them. Also, follow the directions EXACTLY for putting them on the yard. You will have to water your yard in the summer when it is very dry, enough so that the nematodes do not dry up and die - maybe once a week or so, if it is not raining. I have outdoor dogs on both sides of my yard so I put diatamaceous earth around the perimeter of my yard to keep the fleas from crawling into my yard. It works great, but it must be reapplied after a heavy rain. It is also a non-toxic pest control substance. http://www.hydromall.com/happy_grower16.html I sprinkle it on my roses to control little pesky bugs who want to chew the leaves!!! I know is sounds a little nutty, but it really works! Good luck! |

My vet recommended we put our yorkies on Sentinel and Capstar and it has worked marvelously. No fleas at all this summer. |

my babies were on frontline, frontline plus, revolution, sentinel w/ capstar nothing helped, it will take a good freeze for a few days to kill them outside. We are still fighting them, I did though put advantage on them and haven't seen a flea yet, it's been a week so far, where with everything else it was a couple of days and they would be covered again. As for in the house, I'm not sure, I've done everything you have too and we still have them, my vet said that bombs kill the adults but the eggs will still hatch and then you have to keep bombing every two weeks. I try not to steam clean my rugs too often because the heat hatches the eggs. For anyone who has used the powder on the rugs, are the animals aloud back on the rug after you rub it in? I'm afraid to do that because they are so close to the ground. The bowl of water and heat lamp, (do you need a high powered heat lamp? do the kittens not get into the water in the bowl? how do you keep the animals away from the light or the bowl)? OK my fingers hurt now, I think i'll stop for a while:D |
