how much food Ok, I didn't think that I would have to ask this. Cozmo will be 2 in Jan. He weighs 5 lbs 5 oz. When he eats he acts like it is his last meal. He gets about 3/4 cup to 1 cup of food a day. He acts starvied. Then when you give him a treat he takes it like he has never been feed for a long time. So how do I find out if I am giving him enough food. He eats fast. Now I know he is health is good he was at the Vet last week and the week before. Now remember he was a rescue Yorkie, So the only thing that I really know about him is since I have had him. Will 3 weeks this fri. He eats Innova food. And this is a good type of dog food. Am I starving him. |
The best way to assess if his weight is healthy is to feel the ribs - you should be able to just feel them, they shouldn't be prominent nor should they be "under a layer" (or hard to find). If his ribs feel right, then you're probably feeding correctly. It's strange bc some dogs are "gulpers" for a reason (psychologically) and others are gulpers for no apparent reason whatsoever. Your guy being a rescue, kinda hard to say. When I fed kibble, I always free fed - and every pet I ever had never overate, they just self-regulated. Do you think free feeding is worth a try? That Innova is a great food, so maybe he's just so darn excited for it!! :D |
On the free feeding, There is sometimes where he doesn't even eat all that is there. |
