i have 2 wonderful yorkies and in just the last month have had a problem with fleas/ used frontline , still have fleas

We had the same problem - 3 dogs and a cat. We bombed the house, bathed all of the animals including the cat in Dawn and treated the yard. This was about a month ago. All of the furkids are on Advantage. So far, so good! Good luck! There's nothing more aggravating than fleas imo.

Being from down south, fleas are something we have to deal with almost all year(maybe all but a couple mos). I have the german shepherd on sentinel(a once a month pill that is for fleas and heartworms) and the golden retriever is on revolution..they have gone all summer without any fleas on them..

Ugh, I hate flea's too. What I do is get a container and fill it half with water, I pick off with my fingers what I can, and also use the flee comb. Put the flees in the water they will drown because they can not swim. Now I use Advantage and have a random flea at times. This is when drowning the pest come in use between Advantage treatments.

So sorry to hear that - just took Izzy to the vet and he said flea season is so bad this year he is telling all his clients to continue to use Revolution (or whatever you have) until February 1. We use Revolution and it's been great so far. Good luck with fleas - it's hard to get rid if they are all over the place. Happened to me many years ago and they even got into my son's plush toys...:eek:

Murfee used to be on Revolution.....no fleas. The vet changed him to Frontline plus..........fleas; used Adams flea shampoo with the frontline.......fleas; used Dawn....dead fleas but fleas came fack. I'm more than ready to go back to Revolution!!!!!

My vet uses Revolution on his animals and told me that's the way to go. He's also an avian vet and on our local news channel for the pet corner and he's never steared me wrong in any direction. Don't forget - to use your flea stuff until February if you are here in the Midwest - he said flea season is still here.

The answer to flea control is to get them out of your yard. This method will work now, in the southern states, but not up north, because the microscopic organisms described below will freeze shortly - but then so will the fleas. If you will do the treatment described below in the spring, then you will be flea free for the rest of the year.

I really try to not use chemicals on my babies, so this is what I do. I realize that some people have large yards or there may be other reasons that this won’t work for everyone, but here goes……

Beneficial nematodes are the answer to flea control in your yard. Read more about them here http://www.marchbiological.com/L/ben...nematodes.html They are microscopic organisms that feed on a variety of soil insects and they will keep fleas, etc. out of your yard. If you have fleas in your yard, then you will never get them off your baby. Of course, if you live in an apartment, then this solution won’t work for you because theoretically, you don't have a yard.

Also, that does not mean that your baby won't get a flea when they go on a walk or that a flea might crawl over into your yard from the neighbors yard. But that can be controlled by bathing your babies in Dawn dishwashing soap or some other non-toxic method. If there are no fleas in your yard, then you CAN win the battle.

The nematodes will also keep the fire ants out of your yard and that is a great benefit to those of us who live in the south. I have used the nematodes for 6-7 years in central Texas, and have not had a flea problem in all that time. I have outdoor dogs living on both sides of my yard too. The nematodes work great!

You can usually get them at any organic gardening store. They can also be ordered, but they must be kept cool or they will die, so if you order them, be sure the supplier plans to cool ship them. Also, follow the directions EXACTLY for putting them on the yard. You will have to water your yard in the summer when it is very dry, enough so that the nematodes do not dry up and die - maybe once a week or so, if it is not raining.

I have outdoor dogs on both sides of my yard so I put diatamaceous earth around the perimeter of my yard to keep the fleas from crawling into my yard. It works great, but it must be reapplied after a heavy rain. It is also a non-toxic pest control substance. http://www.hydromall.com/happy_grower16.html I sprinkle it on my roses to control little pesky bugs who want to chew the leaves!!!

I know is sounds a little nutty, but it really works!

We were all of the sudden having flea problems too a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't had problems in yrs. I treated the dogs and cat, but also went out and bought some electronic devices that plug in to the wall that deter rodents and pests - including fleas - they admit sounds that only those creatures can hear -- I had these in the past, but I think the ones I was using aged out like smoke detectors do.

It's amazing the fleas seemed to have disappeared :)

I was bathing Paddington over the weekend, and found one flea on his belly :( Our basset hound got fleas ALL the time, and I cannot stand them!!!! I flipped out, and searched him several times over, but didn't find any more.

He's on revolution, but I forgot to put it on him last month, with the moving and everything. Now I can't find it anywhere! Who knows where I put it (I'm suspicious that my fiance accidentally threw it out.) We had no flea problems until now, and I know that it is because I am late putting it on him. Urgh! YUCK

By the way, my vet said that it is bad to use over the counter treatments on the fleas because it is making them more resistant to the prescription treatments like advantix and revolution. It's kinda like creating super bacteria, only with fleas, because it isn't really strong enough to do away with all the fleas- the ones that survive become stronger :mad:

What are these called????? My dad has been using kill traps in the basement for mice, and I absolutely hate it!!! Maybe one of these would work for them.

I've been fighting a losing battle here, we have a neighbor that has about 20 beagles outside and are not treated for fleas so no matter what we've done they are still here, my babies have been on frontline plus, sentinel, revolution, dawn soap, flea soap, bombed the house, sprayed the house, put stuff on the yard three or four times, short of noone leaving or entering the house i'm at my wits end.

I have been told that seven dust will work on the dogs but I don't know how to aply it, how much..... anyone know?

I use frontline plus with Jasper @ never had a problem!
