help decide hair texture 2 Attachment(s) Hello guys Gypsy is now 4 months old. She's beginning losing her babyteeth! (this week my 8 year old boy, my 6 year old boy and my 4 month old dog lost teeth! LOL!:D ) Gypsy's hair is so soft and abundant, but I can't tell what kind of texture does it have:confused: I'm attaching a picture so you can take a look and tell me what you think. regards! Ana in mexico |
From the pictures, she looks like she is going to have a soft, fuzzy coat. The hair looks "crimped", so it doesnt look like its going to be silky. |
Coat is reflecting light nicely, indicitive of a silk coat.....I can barely see her feet....but, they don't look fuzzy...4 1/2 months...still a pup. I would prefer my pups not to begin breaking color until 8 months of age..they tend to hold it longer.... |
2 Attachment(s) I see no curls so my guess would be an European type silk like my Danali. |
thanks 2 Attachment(s) Hey guys thanks for your answers. Mardelin, I'm attaching a picture where you can see her feet, also other features, let me know what you think!;) I'curious if from looking at my pictures do you think that Gypsy is already breaking colors? or holding? Her head is beginning to look gray, and also the hair texture is "silkier" there ladyhawk thanks again for your reply, I'm very interested in the european kind of slik that you are talking about, can you explain to me what you mean? thanks I can see some resemblance between danali and gypsy, she has some genes from spain yorkiekist, thanks to your for your oppinion, too:animal36 |
Your welcome!! Is that the same puppy with the long tail as the one in the first pictures? From what I can see in the picture, the coat looks a little different. So, maybe it will turn out more silky. Cute pics!!! |
yes yes it is the same puppy! :D she seems:aimeeyork to have so much hair! |
Those feet and the head look on the straighter side to me so I'd definitely say silk. The silks that you see coming out of Europe, Brazil and Argentina are all very thick, very straight even as puppies, and have a rougher texture when they are young. They mature into a very heavy, harty silk coat with a slightly thicker strand than what we commonly see in the US. I've hed several experienced handlers/breeders go over Danali's coat and they confirm that is the European type silk. Roxie has thrown 2 pups with this coat type though I don't know of any ancestors of hers that are from outside the US. Roxie is a redleg so it may have something to do with that. Since your baby has Spanish roots I would guess that is where the coat comes from. It's an easier coat to deal with, grows relatively quickly, breaks less easily, and rarely matts. Danali's coat does pick up every bit of grass and leaf that she comes in contact with though, good thing it doesn't matt! |
The shine and straightness make her look silky to me. |
ladyhawk i have heard that cotton coats look very thick, and that's why I wonder... but this is my first yorkie and I don't have any comparison point. but her hair is very shiny, and abundant as you describe, it doesn't matt nor break. doesn't even shed! the brush almost comes clean when I brush her. I also have heard that cotton coats or soft coats break and matt and also don't change the black (?) they just turn to gray or stay black, I would like to know if this is correct. Because her head is beginning to get gray with golden, and I wonder if that's proof that she's not cotton or soft. I swear I have read www.yorkiepassion.com chapter about color breaking patterns many times, but still don't completely get it  regards Ana |
oh and I forgot to say that she's grandaughter of this Spanish Champion: http://www.coramonte.com/index.php?p..._coramonte.htm her father is a mexican and international champion http://www.gntpoms.com/yorkie-ingl.html let me know what you think regards |
A wooly coat will often fade to a cleric grey as the dog matures. The black will never look as black as it does on a silk coated dog because it lacks the luster. I took a look at her sire, he's a beauty and appears to be quite dark. I love the coat and am hoping that Danali gives me an easy time of it. Connor's coat has been difficult to maintain as it breaks so very easily. His coat is an excellent color and falls so nicely but it is thinner than I would like and far too fragile. I'm sure your gal will grow up to be stunning like her sire. |
