Help With Soft Coat!!! Abby has a very dry and thick soft/cotton coat. This is my first yorkie and I have absolutely no idea of what products to use. So in other words, I'm clueless  I'm determined to grow and keep her coat long. It is growing very fast, which I love, but like I said it is very dry. What different products can I use? I have heard things about hot oil treatments, different oils, shampoos, conditioners, etc... which have worked the best for you? I have thought about using minksheen and hot oil treatments. And I've recently heard of feeding her different oils. What products and brands do you recommend?? |
And one more thing.... I brush her twice a day and dont have any problems with matting. She's never had a matt in her life so I'm not worried about that. |
anyone? |
I had the same problem with Riley. His head and ears were very dry and he also has the cotton coat. I asked my vet about it and he said to get an oatmeal shampoo. He also said to occasionally use a conditioner on the hair to keep it from drying out. They both have worked very well for Riley. |
I was told to help keep a dog's coat full of lusture and shine you should suppliment them with some sort of high quality oil, flax oil, cod liver oil, salmon oil etc each day. I give my current puppy this and even his puppy coat is getting a lovely shine. I will also contiue this with my new soon to be yorkie:D |
thanks. I do use an oatmeal shampoo. Spruitt what kind of conditioner do you use? Soccbydo, what type of oil do you use? Do you use it on the coat as well as giving them a little by mouth? |
I just use the Perfect Coat conditioner rinse from Petco. Lol. I normally put it on Riley and massage it in really well. Then I use a little puppy comb, while the conditioner is still on him, to brush through his coat and it helps get to the skin more. I don't use it on his face. The lady at Petco told me not to because its not tearless and hes still a baby. |
