Anal Glands What exactly do they look like, and how do you express them? Penny has little lumps that smell funny around her butt, and I was wondering if that was them. |
I let my wonderful groomer take care of that. But I'm bumping you up in case anyone else can answer. I am sure that someone just posted a little video (eww) on this just this week. I'll have to try to do a search on it to find it. |
i want to know how to do skoshis too! his butt is swollen |
Here's a video on it that was posted previously - along with some grooming videos. There were also VERY mixed emotions on whether or not this should be done by anyone without expert experience. I am gladly leaving it to the experts. So I'm only reposting the video link for information purposes only. http://www.expertvillage.com/videos/...ics-glands.htm |
looks hard! |
Thanks for the information. Now I have to decide if I want to do it or not. LOL |
How often does this need to be done?? I have once smelled it when I was a little girl. I was playng around with my chocolate lab, I was tugging on his tail and guess what happened next? It was the most aweful smell! |
I would take them to the groomer or vet and have it done...too yucky for my taste.... |

My groomer does it!! I don't have the guts to do it myself lolol ewwww :D |
After watching the video again, and all your posts I've decided to let the groomer take care of it. |
Some dogs don't need it done, they do it on their own.. I have never had to do Bailey and I've asked my vet and groomer about it..she said you would know if it needed to be done..so I guess I'm lucky. |

Anal gland is something I wouldn't want anyone to do But the VET because if you don't get it ALL out, you could have a BIG problem! We don't have to do Bentley's monthly. |
It depends on each dog if they even need it done! We do our own and yes it's not very nice at all..make sure you use a paper towel or you could get squirted. ICK Next time you go to the vet - ask them. They will be very happy to help you out and show you what to do. If your dogs glands get impacted they can even blow...that is NOT good at all. Just ask your vet! :) |
