To puppy cut or not~! That is the Question? Since she is not show quality at 8.5 pounds  I have the feeling a puppy cut might be the way to go. However I like the look of the yorkie- the signiture look, for pet owners, not the long lavish look for the show dogs. *well I like that look too but that is not my point LOL* So should I puppy cut or not? What are the pro's and Con's? I think that the puppy cut looks like little rag doll puppies and that is cute and all but not really a yorkie look. |
I like to keep it short in the summer and then let it grow after that. |
I've been going back and forth about this myself. Both of my boyz have a full length coat and I love it but it is a little work and they can get that 'stringy' look with the silk coats. I gathered pictures of adorable puppy cuts, checked into a few groomers and had a friend who was going to stop over and help with her expertise. Sooo...I chickened out...I couldn't do it! When I groomed them last night I got brave and trimmed about an inch off of the bottom of their coats and that's all I could make myself do! I do love the look of the puppy cut but I guess I'm a chicken. |
I keep mine short too as Mindee has terrrible hair and Max pees on his hair when it's long. yuk. They wear clothes all the time so never cold. |
I personally do not like the puppy cut. I wanted a yorkie because of falling in love with the way they look, that includes the long hair. However, I do occasionally trim her face into a more "puppy-ish" style. It makes her look like a puppy in the face but she still has the long beautiful coat. Not too short on the face and I always trim her chin hair up to her chin on the bottom. If you look at her dogster page, I believe it's the last picture that I'm describing. Long coat but not too long on her face(still long enough to use clips and bows though). |
i love the long coats. all of mine have it. it is a daily brushing and combing but it is worth it to me. i personally do not like the puppy cut. maybe on boys ....a little but keep the beard and the wings on the ears. |
I love the long coats and have never had any of mine in a puppy cut, but with Cali having terrible allergies and scratching terrible mats in her coat I have started to cut her down a little and cut some of her underneath hair, I brush her daily and still can't keep the mats out. |
My little girl is a tomboy so the puppy cut has always worked for us.....but the reason I get it is she has the thicker coarser coat not the silky.....and anyway the real reason I replied is because I pulled up the dogster profile on Lola and just had to say ooooooooooohhhhhhh what a cute little sweetie she is .............just melts my heart! |
Have the best of both worlds. Have you ever considered a modified schnauzer cut. Long on the sides and legs and muzzle but the back is shaved. Buddy has been sporting this for about 4months now and I will keep him this way for awhile. I really like it and it is so easy to keep. He has a very silky coat which helps. No tangling. |
I have one boy with the modified schnauzer cut. I have one girl with the standard long hair, one with semi long hair, and one with a shorter cut. Also a puppy (5months) with a puppy cut. I go by their look and personality. My Krissy hates to be brushed so short it is. Chelsey loves it and I brush her every night to keep the long hair nice. I like having lots of Yorkies so I can have lots of different styles!:D |
My thoughts I am disabled and don't drive. Hubby is also diabled but does drive. I have a hard time walking, and have several medical problems. Sassy is so hyper active it is impossible for one of us to hold her and the other comb and brush right now. I am thinking puppy cut until she starts to settle down with age. I too got the yorkie for the look, the precious yorkie perfect look. I am willing to give a little now for simplicity, as long as this won't make it so she won't let me groom her once I let her grow out. Ok your turn to bounce! (ideas) |
Hi All, My Abbi Rose has terrible mats and her coat is very cottony and soft. I cut her hair sometime back myself and now she looks so scraggly. Do you all think I should get her shaved or just let the hair keep growing. She is 4 lbs. and 6 months old. Is that still considered the puppy coat? Thanks, Jan |
