What's a good brush to get? My dog seems to have a lot of "knots" in her fir. Is there a good brush to maintain it? I comb all the time but it does not seem to help. |
I personally like the Chris Christensen pin brush. It doesn't scratch and does a good job with Chloe's coat. My puppy (formerly Luci, but we've decided to call Lexi) isn't so keen on any brush just yet! ;) Some good advice I got from other YT members...test it on your skin. If it scratches you, it will scratch them and be uncomfortable. Also, I use Chris Christensen Ice-on-Ice detangler and I've been pleased when doing a brush out. Having said all that, I think the biggest help is brushing EVERY day, not leaving a harness on all the time (we just put it on to go potty and it comes off the minute we are back inside), and the conditioner that I use after the bath (Plush Puppy). If you check out the grooming forum there is a ton of info on all kinds of brushes and combs, but personally we have the Chris Christensen brushes and buttercombs and well worth the extra $$$ you spend. I also just ordered the Ice-on-Ice detangler from them too after reading nothing but good things about this product here on YT so that should be coming this week. Can't wait to try this on Izzy. |
They're loads of them at the Pet stores to chose from. I just use a regular hairbrush, and it does a great job. |
I use a regular human hair brush also, but find that a metal comb works best to get all the tangles out. |

No brush or comb is going to keep knots out of the coat. You need to use a good conditioner and brush the coat daily. Never brush a dry coat. Use a coat conditioning spray before brushing. Use a slicker brush to get the knots out, then a pin brush. I have the Chris Christensen brush. |
when you say not to brush a dry coat that means i should spray with a conditioner? then brush? is a 20mm pin brush long enough? |
