What iron do you use for your dogs on dog shows??? Do you have battery one?

Chi's get super hot. my hair is naturaly curly and fine and thats the only iron that will straiten my hair without the static! i dont know about dogs but its a good straitening iron

I like the Chi iron you have to plug it in. It's one of the best irons for a show dog and now they make the Chi with temp controls. I don't have it "yet" LOL

Okay, this thread caught my attention...

I didn't know that yorkies' hair could be "ironed" (sorry if I sound dumb :o)... Doesn't the high heat damage their hair???:confused:

I use the Chi with the temp control

Yes, you iron the coat so the hair sticks together, makes the coat look wonderful when they gait. No it doesn't damage the coat..you use special products prior to ironing.

I have the battery/butane one, just for emergencies, but don't like the way it irons the coat.

And you use the iron for show dogs because when you wrap the coat it curls it and you have to straighten it out even tho the coat is straight the wrappers curls the coat. Like with human hair you have to take precautions with any heating products when you iron a yorkies coat.

Hmm...you learn something new everyday, I didn't know that they/you use straighteners either. That does make sense though doesn't it. Now do you know how many of us nonshowers are going to want to straighten our yorkies hair just to see, I know I do now...curious like a cat I swear...

Just becareful....those little guys move around alot.....the show dogs have been trained since pups to stand on a grooming table to be ironed. So, be kind to yourself and have patience.

Donna,

I didn't think of that, but you are right.....I just don't wrap my dogs after I bathe them for a dog show....I put their hair up in scrunchies

I used the Chi at first but it was too wide for me. The Ion Titanium is thinner and works best for me. It's a matter of what easiest for you to use. The thinner is just easier for me to manipulate.:aimeeyork

Thanks for the great info!!! I have an iron that Alex won at a specialty, but I have too afraid to use it. I just bath and dry right before every show. I will look for these other irons. Thanks again, Lynn

Sonja,

The Chi comes in several sizes. I use the 1/2 inch for puppies, smaller dogs and facial furnisings. 2 inch for those with the truely long coats....

Well I have to wrap because sometimes i bathe at night and just wrap and take down. I also wrap because it's just easier for me to do because I re use the wrappers after I show so I don't have to wrap when I get back to the motel or home whatever until I bathe again for the next morning. Just easier for me to wrap and reuse so I don't have to bring my box of wraps lol. Plus Radar's facial furnishings get wrapped because he gets it in his mouth because it's getting long now

oh and I couldn't do without my Chi I don't have a wide one. the chi is the only one I use because it gets the waves out after I take down the wraps. I have found the other irons just don't get hot enough to get the waves out after I take down the wrappers. Even though Radar's coat is straight as a board when I wrap him just after a bath and blow dry and leave them up awhile the Chi gets his coat back to being as straight as it was after I blew him dry....

I wrap after the show, but just take them in a little baggie wraps already folded and ready to go, I just don't like the curl they put into the coat...so, have always just used the scrunchies......easier to iron out. It's amazing how each of us does things different.

Nope, it's a ceramic plate iron that distributes the heat evenly....one of the best....You'd be amazed when you stack it up against any other iron. This iron is less damaging on hair. Most exhibitors in the US are using it.

But this one is also ceramic I show you, but it gets only to 200° :confused:
If so much breeders use this one I can belive it must be good. I must try it :D

I use the Big Chi 2" for the really long coats.

and the 1/2 Chi. for the puppies/shorter coats and facial furnishings.

I know others that use the Turbo Chi and are very happy with it. Which ever you get, you can't go wrong.

I love my Chi it's the 2' I think not sure. I don't use the real thin one and I wouldn't use any other iron other than a Chi....I find it to make the coat very nice and shiny because of the cermaric coating. I wouldn't use any other iron! I got pissed when my dogs chewed the cord unplugged of course and I didn't have a back up Chi so had to go buy another one immediately! LOL

I need to make a correction. The Iron I have from Sally's is the Jilbere de Paris ™ Titanium Tools™ Slim Straightening Iron. I have ION as a brand on the brain! It is an ion iron but not that brand.

Cupy, If I'm not mistaken 395F is about 200C So your irons and ours are about the same temperture. I didn't do the math the correct way,just my fast and dirty, so I may be off by a few degrees.
