At what age the puppy coat start change to an adult coat? Hi I'm still kind of new in the site, but I want to know at what age the puppy coat start changing my boy is 6 months and he still have a really fluffy hair and I don't know if is because his hair is going to be like that or is the puppy coat, cause this is becoming a nightmare please some advice. |
At six monthes you should be seeing the adult coat at the roots. He may just end up having a soft coat. If you'd like you can cut about 1 1/2 inch off of the bottom and that should eliminate the puppy coat which is where most of the matting comes from. I see that you are from Norfolk, Va. Gracie is now 13 months and I just had the rest of her puppy hair (about 2 1/2 inches) cut off. The silky adult coat is so much softer! Gracie went through several coat changes from black to silver until the silver finally appears to be the final coat. For a while she was striped horizontally, it looked so silly! I think her first coat change might have started at around 4-6 months. It's hard to remember. The puppy coat does mat terribly. While I miss my "puppy", I don't miss the puppy coat! |
