Stay still! How do y'all get u'r pups/dogs to stay still for grooming? I attempted to clip my 14 wk. old's nails tonight and it was like a wrestling match! I don't want hervrying ythe to associate basic grooming with me as negative. I took her to the groomer a few weeks ago, but she was crying the whole time we were ther. I'd rather just do the grooming myself. Now...how di I get her to stay still? |
i noticed your post and was hoping to read some suggestions myself. I have the same problem. I know takes them some time to get used to and practice but was hoping to read some good ideas.... |
I'm no expert, but here's what I do. Whenever Missy is in my lap, which is daily, I play with her feet just to get her used to having them handled. She doesn't seem threatened when I don't have the clippers. Then, when it's time to clip, I have a "helper" distract her and rub her head. I work as quickly as I can and this seems to work better than any other method I've tried. |
I don't have a yorkie yet, but I read a post somewhere here about them putting peanut butter on the counter and cutting their nails while they are trying to lick the peanut butter. I don't remember where it is. |
I think its just something they get use to. If the 1st time you cut there hair/nails and its pleasant for them.. I think it makes each time go a little better. My Bunny and Bella both hated getting there nails/hair cut at 1st but the more that it was done and the more it was pleasant for them. the better they acted each time they got it done. Also Brushing them and playing with there feet daily, help as well. |
