She's putting up a fight! My puppy won't let me comb her muzzle. Her facial hair is starting to clump from her tears. I need to brush her mustache, but she won;t stay still! I tried washing her face with J&J baby wash, but when it comes to coming her face, she's not having it. I have been gentle, gave her treats, tried when she was sleeping, but she just won't stay still!!! |
I still have a problem with Rhapsody and her face. I just keep trying some days I have her combed up nicely. . . other days she wins and I have to be happy with washing her face and catching her here and there, lol. There have been days I carried the comb in my pocket to try and catch her face when I could. I don't do this as much because she began avoiding me during cuddling time, lol. I've heard persistance is key, sigh, so now a year later still trying, lol. :) |
My little one was a little hellion with both bath and especially any kind of brushing I had a hard time keeping her from flying off the grooming table or flying out of the sink! She would bite the comb, etc. They key is as has been said just keep doing it. She is 90% better now. She still doesn't like her muzzle brushed, but I just grab her beard hair and hold her head still while I brush it. She is getting better. Try it at least once a day and you will be surprised, how much they can change. |

You really have to try on this one, she'll learn that if she puts up a big enough fight that she will be able to get away with anything! Maybe, you can just hold her in your arms and gently touch her muzzle, stroking it, etc. Once she gets used to that, you can bust out the comb. |
Okay...I tried holding her gently by the muzzle...Didn't work. So I tried holding her by the beard...She let out a big yelp! Lol, I think my best bet would be to just wash her face and take her to the groomer. Hopefully, the groomer will be able to show me how to handle her face. When I was combing her beard, there were a few tangles in there, so maybe that's why she didn't want me there. How do I get these out without hurting her? |
Be consistent about it and your dog will get used to it. Do it a few times every single day, try it in different positions, perhaps one in a sit command, then one with them on your lap. Have treat handy when they are behaving, say good boy/girl and treat them right way. They'll get used to it. |

I really don't have that problem since i brushed coli since he was a puppy, he did't like it but i didn't care, i just kept on trying. Ohh, remember they are very manipulative, maybe your not even hurting her, but since you stop brushing, she know this will make you stop. For example my best friend, when her dogs sees her with the brush he starts weeping and when she about to brush him he starts yelling, which is pretty funny, because my friend isn't even touching him and he is already yelling. LOL. So, maybe this is whats happening to you. But still go to the groomers and tell them to show you how to grab her but meanwhile be consistent, brush her everyday, so she gets use to the brushing. |

I'm going through the same thing with my lil one right now....she doesn't mind me cleaning her eyes with my fingers...but when it comes to brushing her...she puts up quite a fit and growls at me.....I have tried a few different brushes/combs, but still the same reaction....It's only been a few weeks now so I am hoping that being constant she will come around and accept the fact that a brushing is a good thing....Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.... |
Gracie hates having her beard combed and her face fussed with. The only way I comb her beard is to grab one side while I comb the other. She fusses but it gets done. Good luck! |
