What's your technique for topknots/bows? Sasha refuses to sit still, and I've tried it with her every day since her hair has been long enough for a ponytail. She just hates them. If I manage to get one in, I always feel like it's crooked/too tight/too loose, etc... and if I ever get a rare good one she pulls it out anyways. But her hair is getting long enough where it's becoming a necessity, her eyebrows and stuff are getting in her eyes. Is there any way you relax them or get them used to it, and what kind of stuff do you use - just clips, elastics and clips? I have tiny little elastics I use for the ponytail part and then put a clippie over it, if I don't it slides right out, but I always feel like that makes it too tight and/or tears her hair and that's why she hates them so much. |
Ok I'm going to warn you my method is quite strange. Ok I usually use a comb instead of a brush and use elastics if I'm using a bow, my bows actually have barrettes but I use an elastic first. And I do use clips a lot too. Anyway I first sit down on the floor with my legs spread apart in a "V". Then I stick Reagan inbetween them facing away from me. I then cross one leg over the other, think Indian style, in front of the dog, usually Reagan just rests her chin on my leg. This contains her with my legs so I have my hands available to work with her hair. Now you are able to kind of hoover over her and even it up with the middle of her eyes. Once I put the elastic in I pull it away from her head just a bit to loosen it. Just keep trying and don't worry about it being crooked you'll get better and at least she's getting used you doing it and it being up. |
Repetition is key, do this every single day (at least the topnot with a rubberband method) Put her on your knees tie elastic grooming band on, then put a bow on that has a barrette attached. That works best for us. On a every day basis, she wears a grooming band. Initally, she would try to get it off but eventually got used to it and now it doesn't bother her. We take it off every night so her scalp has a chance to relax (I'd hate to go to sleep with a pony tail on lol). I also sometimes put her in her down command on top of a table and fix her hair this way. |
