Shampoo for a Yorkie Puppy? My wife and I just got a yorkie puppy a couple of days ago. We have been letting her outside to go potty and she is doing good at that soo far. However we think she might have gotten a flea. Because both my wife and I have a couple of bites that look like flea bites. I was just wondering what everyone uses for shampoos? I think we will give her a bath for now. So is going to the vet next week for a check up as well. Any information that any one has would be great. Thank You |
I do not recommend giving her any type of flea shampoo or flea bath. Those things have so many chemicals and she's just a little pup, and I have read several stories about dogs having reactions to those. Maybe comb her with a flea comb...The vet will be able to help you in this dept. They may prescribe revolution, frontline, etc. As far as grooming products are concerned. Many people on here like Chris Christensen products, Petsilk products, etc. We use Coat Handler, and love it! It really leaves their hair nice and shiny. Good luck! |
I wasn't looking for a flea shampoo. I was just thinking of giving her a bath with regular shampoo to see if that would help her? |
CC, Coat Handler, Petsilk, MinkSheen are all shampoos that people on this forum have had success with. I'm sure there are a bunch more, but those are the ones I can think of right now. |
I use pantene Ice with twenty drops of Eculapytis (sp0 Oil added to the whole bottle. it is a natural flea preventive. i started using it on my babies at eleven weeks. Works great. |
Two things you can try.... Dawn dish Soap or Baby Shampoo for humans. Both are suposed to kill the fleas ON THEM but will not repel them. Just be very careful not to get it in her ears or eyes :) Good luck !!!!! :D |
I just bought some shampoo with oatmeal in it because that is what the breeder recommend. It was the 4 paws brand not sure if that is good or not? We only used a small amount. I will try and get some better stuff when I can. |
Baby Shampoo When my baby was young we used regular human baby shampoo & rinse with lemom juice to kill any fleas.:animal36 |
I have read that dawn dish soap kills fleas. Also minksheen is supposed to have a natural flea repellant in it. |
So far she seems to do better after the bath. Although the bath thing was new to her and she didn't care for that at all. I am taking her to the vet this week to get some shots I will see what she recommends. Thanks for all the help so far. |
Use Cloud Star Buddy Wash. It is really gentle and smells great. www.cloudstar.com |
For my 8 month old babies, I use Johnson & Johnson's No More Tears & Pantene conditioner. I blow dry them with a brush and the dryer help me see the critters as it parts the hair. Then I pluck them out and drown them in rubbing alcohol! Since I bathe them once a week, I hardly ever have fleas on my girls. My 10 year old get's the baby shampoo on her head, and Pantene for the body + the conditioner. I found this and I'm planning on buying the Lavender extract, mixing it in water & spritzing it on the girls to see if it helps. "Fleas detest the scent of lavender, mint, rosemary, sweet woodruff and cedar: use sachets of these fragrances between couch cushions or mix extract with water and spritz a fine mist to use as a repelant. Pet baths. Bathe pets with gentle herbal shampoos. Pesticide shampoos are overkill, since simple soap and water will kill fleas if the soap is left on for about 5-8 minutes." |

By the way, the smell lasts 3+ days. That's awesome. P.S. I used this for a while when I was having some allergy issues and trying to find products without anything harsh. This was even better than the products in the organic aisle at my market. I used it every day for a few weeks so again add that into the fact that this bottle has still lasted A YEAR. |
