Ear tapping? My baby frankie is almost four months old and is my first yorkie. His ears were down and i started tapping at 12 weeks (two weeks now on and off) and his ears are now standing but one is weak. do i continue to tape or will they get strength on there own now that they are standing? any help will be much appreciated!! thanks... |
If it s floppy I would tape it again , soon it will stand strong on its own. Keep up the work and it will pay off in the end. |
Thanks..it has been a frustrating two weeks..he hates the tape but i will tape again! thanks for the advice:) |
You have to know that this is the time he is teething and the ears do go up and down. They should stand soon. Keep after them!!! |
So because he is also teething they are going to go down again? because it seems that they are up for a few days and then down again. So you would say continue to tape every time they flop down again? They stand beautifuly and then they will colapse..frustrating because he hates the tape:confused: hmm thanks for the advice! |
To be sure they stand, make sure you shave the tips of the ears about a third down and do continue to tape until they stand for good. I know it is a pain in the *** but one of these days they will stand and it will be over !!! It won't take much longer. |
Ya i have been shaving the ears too..pretty sure im a damn expert by now from doing it so much! lol hopefully it will all be over soon..thanks again!! |
My yorkie is almost ten weeks old and her ears are still down. Is taping completely necessary to get them to stand up or will they stand if I just keep shaving the tops of them? |

I need to try it on my 8 wks old pups |
I don't start taping until they are 12 weeks old and by than it's usually not necessary. They may just go ahead and come up if you give them a chance on their own. |
Zachary's ears... My Zachary's ears are down and he won't be 12 weeks old until this Wednesday. I was hoping his ears would stand up on their own, so I wouldn't have to do the taping thing. Tomorrow he is going to the groomer and I am having her shave one/third of the way down on his ears and hopefully that will help. If not, I will probably end up taping them, but I know he isn't going to like it one bit. |
I had to tape Bailey's ears 4-5 times. They would stay up a few days and then flop again. Finally, they look great! One flops when she runs, but it looks kinda cute! |

Does anyone shave their own puppies ears instead of having a groomer do it? I need a little instruction on what is best to use (as far as clippers) and what settings..... |
I originaly posted this thread about six weeks ago. and let me tell you it is a long and frustrating process, but if you want your babies ears to stand so worth it in the end! it took me 5 weeks to get them to stand (starting when he was 12 weeks old). i would shave and tape every week. As for clippers i am a stylist so i brought home my trimmers, they are the very small clippers for detailed work. i used no guard, but because i use them every day for work i was confident that i wouldnt cut him so i would probably suggest using the smallest guard. i would tape the base of the ear so they stood straight up on his head like an alien or something. it was so embarassing walking him but ppl always seemed to know what was going on, 'getting his ears done?' they would say. i would leave the tape on for 3-4 days in the first couple weeks. then after that only for 1-2 days as they needed it. |
