Petsmart Grooming? Has anyone had their yorkie groomed at Petsmart or Petco? Just curious...I've been taking my furgirls to a great groomer at our former vet's office, but it's far away since we moved. Also, we have to leave them for the whole day to be groomed. Has anyone had a GOOD Petsmart Grooming experience? I've heard bad things, but I'm wondering if that's because it's much more likely that we warn others when we have BAD experiences than telling people when we have GOOD experiences. I WON'T go to the Petco in my area-it's always dirty, the people are snarly, and I don't like the way I've seen the groomers there handle the dogs. Our Petsmarts are usually pretty clean, and the people seem to be helpful... |
I've had it done at Petsmart. It may be the last time I take her there. I hadn't read any of the reviews on here so I didn't know what to ask for or anything but I did say not to cut anything on her face except for around the eyes a little bit. Well I left to look at some beds and bags and stuff and when I got back, they'd cut some of the hair in her topknot. I was sooo mad. I specifically told them not too. I may only take her to get a nail clipping next time. |
grooming at pet smart i had my yorkie done once at pet smart. that will be my last time. very displeased with the service. |
I took my other dog there once (before he passed away, RIP). They shaved sooo much under his eyes, that it was so red, it looked like he had tomatoes under his eyes. They took off layers of skin. I was so upset, and I had to pay for it and everything. My poor baby...That was a horrible experience. |
I took Oliver to Petsmart and I will never take him there again! The haircut was fine, but they did not cut off much at all. Granted he was a puppy then and it was his first time getting a hair cut so they were just trying to get him used to getting a haircut. However, when i got him outside and put him on the ground he squatted and peed right there on the pavement. Then after I let him go and we walked to the car he peed more on the pavement and another time once I walked him over to the grass. They had not let him out the whole 5 hours he was there, I was very dissapointed. I expected them to take better care of my baby than they did. |

I've seen alot of people post on here about Petsmart grooming, and most of it is negative. We have been trimming Jake's hair ourselves, but I would like to find somewhere to take him for a summer cut. Won't be Petsmart though. |
Well when I took Holly they didn't take too long. About 1 1/2 hours. Perhaps if they'd taken 5 hours they would have realized that I told them not to touch the face before they actually cut her hair. LOL |

oh boy. Ok. Thank you all for answering my question-I WILL NOT be taking my furgirls there either! |
Layla USED to go there... but they took forever... almost 3 hours.. and she came back very upset.. i'd have to hold her for days... she was a different dog when she came back.. so we just started grooming her ourselves! talk about saving money :) |
2 Attachment(s) The one near me cuts all their dogs super short,it doesnt matter what breed. I seen all come out with the same shaved down cut :( I got a DVD at Petsmart for grooming. The main thing I wanted to see is the shaving on the nose and whiskers. I pretty much do a great job with pads, genital, ears and body I just hate to cut the nose bridge. But I saw a dvd and it showed a little bit how to do it and I tried it today and it came out awesome! Now that I have 3 dogs ,grooming is going to be too expensive. My groomer charges $40& up for each dog so I would be paying at least $120 each time!So I think buying the professional clipper might be worth it lol I need to get nicer clippers because Lola's hair is a mix of silky and cottony? But the clippers for her hair type cost like $169! I am learning to Groom Lola myself but my ultimate hairstyle for her is this one below. This adorable furbaby girl is from Japan I love the long earhair ,short body hair and the legs look like she has boots :) Genie Cookie Lola Angel |
I used to have my toy poodle groomed at PetSmart for about 5 years. I never had a problem, except one time when they cut a nail too short. They used to keep him for about 5 hours but he was elderly and couldn't stand long enough to be groomed in one standing so they let him rest. I always took his blanket and his water dish and checked in on him when I could. I got to know the groomer very well and she was very god to him. She cried when told her that I had to let him go over the rainbow bridge. She now grooms Tink for me and does a great job. So far, it's just butt and feet trims and I stay there so Tink doesn't get scared. But Kris is very good and I don't worry. BUT I don't let anyone else groom her. Just the groomer I know and trust. |

I took Izzie (she was 4 months old) to Petsmart about 3 weeks ago while I was in California visiting my parents. They always have done a great job on our chocolate lab, so I felt very comfortable leaving Izzie. I dropped her off at 12:30, and they called me at 2:00 saying that she was done. I specifically said what I wanted trimmed and that I still wanted to be able to attempt to do a topknot. :) They did everything that I had asked. The groomer said that she was great, other than the fact that she liked to squirm. :D I'm going back to CA for the summer, while school is out, and I will definitely be taking Izzie back to get groomed there. PS: I'm sorry about everyone else's bad experiences. I wish that you had a Petsmart like mine in CA!!! |

I would never take mine to Petsmart. There have been too many negative reviews on here and I have always had good experiences fom my private groomer |
I have taken Ceiba for nail and eye touch ups only. I have watched from the glass windows while they have groomed other dogs. WOW! They are so mean!!! Twice I have seen them grab them grab and TWIST the skin on the back of the neck to make them sit still. Poor puppies! :( |
its the groomer not the shop Im a groomer in petsmart and I will be the first to say some groomers I would not allow to groom my toenails some are fabulous express is the way to go take an hour to watch the groomers dont be obvious want to see the real groomer how they handle there dogs I love all my dogs that I groom I dont leave them on the table unattended Im gentle I give them two baths use drops in there eyes a towel in there cage for comfort petsmart has rules but some groomers are just burned out its the same in all shops these people should not be grooming anymore also if I see a grooming mishandle any pet I am down there throat like a bat out hell. |

i had my maltese done there several time but from the last time...i will never ever take them back there... |
Well tried Petsmart once. It was a $35 glorified bath. Only front nails got trimmed. They didn't tip off ears. Only cut small amount of hair on back. No butt trim. I wasn't real pleased, but I only asked for puppy cut. I am now letting Baileys hair grow for more traditional yorkie cut with topknot. The puppy has not been groomed yet. There was a groomer in town that was listed in newspaper blog for trimming nipples off on dogs... I had been trying to do own haircuts but, sometimes you need 4 hands to do this lol. I guess just ask around and find groomer by word of mouth, or try it yourself. |
