Bow Making Instructions Does anyone have any good bowmaking instructions that they would be willing to share? I really want to try to make my own bows but I know absolutely nothing about it. If anyone would be so kind as to share their secrets by either email, pm, post or snail mail, please contact me. Thank you.:) |
I am also interested :) |
http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...itting+needles In this thread you will find directions for bow making , I think on post #19 good luck!! |
Thank you, Debbie. That is great. I had tried search using bow and it said that was too common a term. It is awfully nice of you to share your "secrets" with us. :) |
Thanks so much! Those instructions are awesome! |
Debbie , umm You know you also offered to go further & do it with double bows & one sided ribbon, hint, hint, ;) quoting "your first bows will not be perfect unless you have paid attention!!! If you want more I can keep going on the double bows with lace in the middle and one sided ribbon. It is all done the same but you have to hold a bit more ribbon, just a bit harder." Happy Bow making!! |

I'd like to learn about the ones w/ the lace, if it's not too much trouble... |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 115144Okay but this is going to take a lot of my time so be patient. First I have templates made for the different bows, you already know about the double sided bows that are 8 in Then for the single sided ribbon you will need two different pieces of ribbon one for the top of bow and one for the bottom. So here are the measurements for the templates. If you are adding trim or lace cut two pieces of the top template. |
1 Attachment(s) So you can see in this picture I have cut two of the top and one for the bottom. I am using contrasting colors so you can see it better. This is not a color for yorkies unless they are pets. Attachment 115153 |
2 Attachment(s) Attachment 115154 Now lay the lace on top of the top piece and fold the ends over in the back and make sure they over lap....to a measured 1 and a half inches. |
1 Attachment(s) Now place the top on top of the back of the bow and finish with the directions on the single sided ribbon. Making sure you keep the ribbon from slipping and that you sew it in the perfect middle. Attachment 115160 |
fell free to ask questions if I have made it to hard to understand. |
That's great! Thanks! I really appreciate you taking the time to show us!!! Chloe and I will be heading to the sewing shop tomorrow to pick up some ribbon, lace ribbon, and little bling things :) |
I want to see pictures when you are done, no matter what they look like!! |

pictures are the only way I can help you from here |
Thanks, Debbie What is the name of the spray that we buy to stiffen the bows? Also are the knitting needles a certain size? Would it be easier for us as pet owners (rather than showing) to get the bows on and off if we put them on a barette rather than bands? If so, what type of barette would you recommend? Thank you ever so much for the instructions. Looks like you stayed up until the wee hours to do that for us.:) |
Knitting needles are size 15 and 11 buy two of each. The spray I use is from the craft store it is a clear acrylic sealer gloss this can is from Patricia Nimocks but I am sure any acrylic spray will do. As far as barrettes or bands it is up to you, most people like the bands. |
