Brush vs. Comb My mom and I gave Sophie her first haircut because I thought it would be a great way to save a little cash and spend some time with my mom. I brush Sophie everyday and sometimes twice a day. I brushed her out before my mom showed up. Apparently I am the worst groomer in the world because her hair was matted all over the place :eek: . I felt so bad because as soon as my mom started using the comb it was apparent the brush hadn't been getting the job done at all. She has cottony hair and I am thinking she might remain in a puppy cut. Actually I know she will remain in a puppy cut and maybe my mom and I can get lunch while she is at the groomers ;). Are there combs that are better than others for cottony hair? </IMG></IMG> |
I prefer a comb To me the brushes don't get down to the skin. You have a lot more control with a comb and a lot more thorough grooming, in my opinion. If you need a comb I have a few left that I am selling. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77006 |

I've seen those combs around but I wasn't sure how they would work. I agree the brush just didn't get to her skin. My mom has some combs I can look through. I'll see if she has what you've recommended. Thanks for your input! |

I use a mixture of grooming brushes ... I find a slicker brush is great but has to be used with care (don't wanna scratch my babes) - I find this is great for taking out mats as long as your gentle. I usually put my fingers at the root of the hair and use a slicker on the ends. You have to be very careful not to tug too hard as it will snap the hair and I recommend going for the smallest one you can find. I use a metal comb for around the face, again very slowly and gently as not to pull the skin I use a flea comb around the eyes to get out the gunk (only after I've used the metal comb) If I've used a product like Cowboy Magic I can get away with just using a soft brush for every day body grooming, with perhaps attention paid to the difficult areas (bottom and under arms for my pups) with the slicker / comb. Heh not much use am I .... I advise a selection of them all :) |
