NEED YOUR EXPERT ADVICE! (under eye stains) Sputy's under eye area is really stained. I'm new to the whole yorkie grooming thing, so i'm not sure what product I can get to remove the staining. They all claim to do it, and my vet gave me one, sorry, SOLD me one and it did NOTHING. I am not going there again! LOL Anyways, can anyone recommend a product? |
is tear staining very common in yorky breed? mine tears terribly. the coat around the eye area is very wet the next day. why? |
One of my girls has tear stains. I wash their faces everyday with a warm damp facecloth, dry them, then i use a cotton ball with "Diamond eye" and wipe the bottom of her eyes. It doesnt solve the problem, but it keeps it clean. |

Secondly, are there any short hairs that might be poking the eye? Lastly, you could use a scented and dye-free baby wipe and dissolve the goo. Then with a flea comb-take it out ;) Do this daily to keep up with the stains |
The beet pulp thing is not really true. They beets used in dog food are white beets not red beets. There are some products that are available. Angel eyes is supposed to work well but it is a low grade antibiotic and I am against giving a dog any antibiotic for something as minor as tear stains. I have heard using distilled water for drinking water can help. I have also heard adding a tiny bit of vinegar or lemon juice to the drinking water will help by changing the acidity of the tears. Be glad you don't have a maltese. At least yorkies faces are darker so the tear stains are not as obvious. |
I just use a washcloth with warm water to dissolve and wipe away undereye goop every few days. |

Gosh, I've never had a tear staining problem, maybe it's because I have always given him distilled drinking water...hmmmmm. |
Tums for stains and tearing? I had someone tell me to give my baby 1/2 a Tums a week and they'll stop tearing/staining? Anyone hear about this or know if it is safe/healthy? |

I've always heard too that the tear stains can be from food ingredients or allergies. My boyz have never had a problem with staining but I've always had them on a good food. |
after trying all of these things.. you just *sigh* and live with it :p every day i wipe and wipe and wipe.. and every day.. stains stains stains.. i find it espcially bad after being outside... i say it gives her character  |
I use baby wipes every night before bed and every morning when they first wake up, they are gental to there eyes and keep them from getting really crusted.:) johnson & johnson baby wipes. |
