Oiling the coat Hello, I'm fairly new to Yorkie talk [last week] I was wondering if anyone out there oils their Yorkie's coats. What type of oil do you use? What age to start wrapping the coat? My Yorkies are 5 months old. I would like to practice on these little guys in the hopes that I might one day fix up and show my own Yorkie. I used to show Wire Fox Terriers years ago, I was a terrible trimmer ;) so I'm hoping that I'll have better luck with my Yorkies. Oh, also how often to bathe? I do it once a week just because I like to and my little ones like it too, is this excessive? Any suggestions on which shampoo and condition is the best? Do you condition and then oil, or is it one or the other? Thanks so much in advance for the help. Cheers, Karen Grande |
I am not an expert or anything, but I oil Luna?ss hair after every bath and sometimes during the week. I use Neutrogena Body oil, and I got a little spray bottle (Wal-Mart travel stuff). I bath her, brush her, and before blowdrying, I spray a little oil, specially on the tips of the hair... Sometimes during the week, specially if the weather is too dry, I will spray the oil on my hands and reapply on the tips, or wherever I feel she needs it. It also helps the hair a little to lay down, and we barely have any knots... She has such a thin hair, and I think it protects it a little. Again, I don?t know if what I do is right, but it works for us. Hope this helps... Isabel. |
I use a little baby oil on Skippy after his bath. I bathe him once a week, or he gets pretty smelly. |
I use Plush Puppy Seabreeze oil. I dont wrap though |
Emu or Almond Oil....1 cap full in a cup of warm water as a final rinse. Yes I condition and rinse out before the oil. |
