What am I doing wrong??? Hello, Need your expertise once more. All this beautiful yorkies I see here but both off mine only look good 1st day of their bath maybe 2nd. After that they look raggedy. My girl who I believe is cotton coat looks the worst she looks like she's wet even after I brush her. How can I get her to have soft flowy fur. I feed them royal canine w/missing link & flaxseed oil bathe them once a week w/oatmeal shampoo and conditioner - I rinse realy well I brush them daily I use johnson & johnson detangling spray Any suggestions? Their fur is medium length right now - I'm letting it grow out. I've been so upset @ how she looks that I almost took her to get puppy cut today. But I really want to see her with long coat. They are both 15 mos old. Thanks!!!  |
Sometimes they just are what they are, but I bet yours are darling. Can you post some pictures of your babies?? |
That is the typical Yorkie coat and the reason a lot of folks just give up and get a puppy coat. They really only look soft and beautiful when they are bathed dried and brushed. :) Most everyone takes pictures and posts them right after being brushed, otherwise they do tend to look "stringy". Go to a dog show and watch how the people take care of their Yorkies while waiting their turn in the ring. The Yorkie is generally standing on a table and not moving and the handler has the brush going on it all the while. :D |

I'm on my laptop right now and all my pics are on my desktop so I can't post pics right now, but I'll try later. |
I agree with Yorkiedaze...they look pretty right after we groom them and so we take pictures. The rest of the week they look like little ragamuffins. Also, your detangling spray may be adding a bit of oil giving them that wet stringy look. You could try diluting the detangler spray with water. |

LOL I thought they're supposed to look beautiful 24/7. Can you tell I'm 1 yr old mommie:D :D :D Thanks I'll try diluting the spray |
That Is Soooooo True! Sometimes I Tell Him He Looks Like A Junk Yard Dog...but He Doesn't Care, And I Love Him Anyway |

Mine only look good right after bathing. One suggestion if your cotton coated yorkie looks oily even after a bath, I'd cute back on some of the oil that you're feeding her, or get a different shampoo. |
Mine look good after a bath when I brush them out. After that they look scaggly |
LOL, yes...we've been laying around all day and mine haven't been brushed since yesterday morning and they look like orphans..nothing at all like the pics I have posted of them:D I think they look just as cute when they look like little ragmuffins... |
I kinda like that "Come hither" look. You know, the "lived-in" look, not the "company's coming" look. That's what Roxy looks like most of the time. She doesn't like to be brushed unless it's bath time. |

LOL...I love your description of the "mussed-up", tousled, hair style. I like both looks, all pretty, freshly groomed and then they day after look, which Ruby prefers. |
LOL LOL LOL I'm so happy to know it's not just me. I didn't get why my babies looked like homeless yorkies even after brushing Thanks soooo much everyone and by the way I still love them the same he he he at least they're not smelly babies LOL My brother in law was visiting us from out of state this weekend so I didn't have time for their baths. I was so worried they would be smelly. He was playing with them and then he says "hey this dogs don't smell at all" I told him wow that's good to know because they haven't had a bath for 1 week and a half :D :D :D |
