Help with my baby's coat.... Gracie is almost 5 months old and is absolutely adorable! My problem is her coat. She has a wirey coat and only looks nicely groomed after I brush her. Her hair on her head always looks oily and the rest of her looks like she hasn't been brushed in days even though I brush her in the morning and at night. Is this normal? Does this mean her coat will be like this forever, or will she become silky? I know it's a tough call but just wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing these same issues. |
Do you have pics? What do you feed? Have you tried missing link? What shampoo do you use? What do you use to brush her? Please elaborate more so people can add their suggestions. |
I'm having the exact same problem!! I am having the exact same problem with my puppy, Skippy. He is about 10 weeks old. I am feeding him Eukanuba puppy food. I'm brushing him with a wire brush for small, shorthaired dogs. The vet recommended Hylite shampoo, and I thought he looked 'stringy' from not being conditioned. So I bought some conditioner the groomers at petsmart said they used. He still has a greasy looking head and looks stringy and dirty with in 30 minutes of me brushing and bathing. His hair is also really cute and fluffy after brushing and goes flat after we're done. I think I'm seeing spots of flakyness or dryness also. Any suggestions are welcomed. |

My suggestion is to browse the grooming and health/diet sections. The search button above is very useful as well........ For starters, Eukanuba is not a good quality food. You should take your bag to the computer and research the ingridients. Google what by-products are, what should and should not be in dog food. I suggest you watch the video here: http://healthypetnet.com/Healthypetn...aspx?realname= You will get a TON of opinions and they are just that. Ultimately, the best way to come to a conclusion on what is the 'best' pet food for yours is up to you. Do the research, check out what others feed. Look at the results etc. You should also look into a good quality shampoo and conditioner. Again, look/ask what others use. Some people use petsilk, biogroom, plush puppy, chris christensen, cranberry fields by petzlife ;) The brush is very important too. Try brushing your arm 100 times and see what happens.......irritated skin=flakes. If you take a microscope the ends look like darts........some people use regular plastic combs to fancy brushes and combs. Chris christensen makes great products.......(my opinion and that of others) ;) I knew nothing about this until I became a member here and stayed. Each day I learn new and great things. I have further 'educated' myself by doing research. I read, google........ask others for reviews etc. Reasearch takes time but it's well-worth it  Again, welcome aboard............hope this helps a bit. ;) Personally, this is what I have found that works for MY dogs: Food: Canidae all life stages (lamb and rice) and Life's Abundance Supplement: Missing link plus and fish oil Shampoo: Petsilk and Cranberry fields shampoo and conditioner by petzlife Oral care: Petzlife gel and spray Brushing: I don't use one. I use a Chris Christensen Buttercomb There are wonderful sellers on here. I get my supplement, oral care and petzlife products from beyondspoiled.com (Kathryn_V). Awesome customer service and member. Purecanine.com (Coley) sells Petsilk and Petzlife oral care as well. |
Gracie's Coat I am feeding her Canidae All Stages (dry and a little bit of wet). I use PetSilk products (Puppy Shampoo and Conditioner). I am using a wire brush on her and brush her morning and night. |

Can you take the wire brush on your arm 100 times (brush test).........see what it looks like after. I would get a more gently brush. Have you tried missing link? It has worked wonders for me and many others here. You can also research seameal by solid gold and Grizzly's salmon oil. There are TONS of thread so you can do a search. Google helps a lot too. Good luck :) |
