Cleaning eyes?!? Hi everyone, I just had a quick question about how you all go about cleaning your yorkies eyes? I have a lot of trouble getting the gunk out of Sebastian's eyes especially. Is there any trick or special equipment? Thanks |
I use Breck personal wipes (kind of like diaper wipes) to clean Summerlin's eyes a couple times a day. There is not any alcohol in them, so I don't have to worry about it burning her eyes or drying out her skin or coat. She just sits there while I clean her eyes first, and then I use another wipe to clean the rest of her face. Hope this helps. :) |
I comb it out and Annika is starting to get used to staying still while I work on her face:rolleyes: |
I use a plain old wash cloth that is saturated with very warm water. It breaks up the gunk and you are good to go. Another good way to avoid it is to have the hair trimmed by the eyes. Lex tends to not like me near his eyes after a bath. So I usually let the groomer trim around his eyes. But by accident the other day while I was bathing him (he turns into a bit limp mush and enjoys his spa time) I gathered the hair around his eyes because I was going to clean it and I was able to use my mini trimmer fast to clear away the hair there. It's great because I dont' have to run to the groomer the minute it starts to get long. |
every morning and night i take a flea comb and take the gunk out of lexi's eyes... i use a warm washcloth first to soften it up.... works good too. |
Thanks for everyone's responses they have all given me some good ideas. :) |
I also use the flea comb... fast and clean... it is great also at bath time, when all the mess is wet, one pass, and done!!! |
I'm so glad you are aware of those precious little eyes and the importance of keeping them clean. I have found that there is a direct connection with our little ones between the health in thier mouthes, ie bacteria, decay, plaque, etc., and the amount of gunk draining from the eyes. Of course we all know how notorious our Yorkies are for crummy teeth, so we need to brush those little chompers every day just as often as we clean the little peepers. I've learned some lessons the hard way. One of our rescues has lost all her chompers and is a constant reminder to me to keep up the tooth patrol. |
