To Bow or not to Bow? Ok I am extremely curious whether most people use a bow or not? I put my boys hair up in the typical top knot bow, however he constantly trys his best to get it out....Which he usually does after about 1 hour give or take. I have realized he much prefers to not wear it at all, so here's the question I have.... Do most yorkie owners allow their pets to go all natural so to speak? I don't want to cut his hair so I use the bow often but he sure like to just run around as much as possible with his hair looking like he's having a bad hair day. Is this common or do most people actually keep a bow in their hair all the time? |
I think if you have been puting them on your furbaby for a while and he/she hasn't got use to them ,why keep doing it if they are bothered by them? My opinion is to cut the hair and you both will be happier. :) |
My boy doesn't wear a bow. Primarily because my hubby never allowed it so I had to get used to that. Bengi is 10 months old so I think he is too old to get used to it now, anyway. My groomer cuts the hair around the face very nicely so no hair gets into his eyes. He looks cute and comfy, so I'm ok with that. If someday I get a girl, I will for sure put the hair up in a bow, but I'm gonna have to get her used to that at a young age so she doesn't fight with it! |
we bow or barrette on outings but for every day at home, we only rubberband in a top knot. |
lexi only wears bows on ocasion, but wears a rubberband day in and day out... her hair is tooooooo long not to.....she actually comes to me to fix it when it gets messed up.... |
Millie wears bows or barretts to go out or on special occasions. I rubberband, only, at home. She likes to mess her hair up a little after I fix it for her. I think she is loosening it up, because I may put it in too tight. After she messes it up, she pretty much leaves it alone after that. I will on occasion let her hair down for a few days in a row to let her scalp rest. At those times, I try to massage her scalp when I hold her so that area gets stimulated. |
Thx for all your input...I appreciate your comments. I dont want to cut his hair, its gorgeous long so I'm going to get him more used to his bow and give him time off for good behavior, lol. He can hair his bad hair days more when hes at home...lol. |
It depends on the day sometimes it's a bow or just a rubber band. She hated it at first but I made it a point to do it constantly and she eventually got conditioned to it. I used rubber bands at first, then grooming bows and now actually top knot bows. Now, when I get ready to put her hair up she lays down and stays still. Now when I put her hair up on occasion I catch her closing her eyes and falling asleep. I want her to grow coat thus, getting her use to having her hair up was idea. I do notice if she feels the rubber band is to tight she will try to get it out. However, once I loosen it up (with the end of a rat tail comb) she doesn't bother with it anymore. |
I have put topknots in Chachis hair before but My Husband doesnt like it. He says no topknots for him he is a boy. So I just keep his hair short. |
Lexie loves to wear bows, well my boys are boys and love to pull them out as fast as I can put them in, and sometimes Lexie too... |

Well same here . . . my skin family refuses to see him in a topknot so I chopped off his hair. Annika on the other hand has very, very long hair so she wears my clamp style clip collection whenever she is out of Tiger's hair because he will EAT it, I find it really such a breeze and it does not damage her hair one bit and she does not mind wearing them. She hates bows with a passion and getting the rubber band is something I just have given up. |
My husband would never allow me to put any type of bow or top knot in Cooper's hair. I keep it short. Cooper wouldn't go for it either, I don't even put shirts on him anymore and only a harness when he has to be leashed, as hates really anything on him. My Carley on the other hand, wears a top knot and a shirt or dress everyday practically. My only problem is Cooper likes to take the bows and clips and such out of Carley's hair and destroy them. I buy alot of her bows and clips in the baby department though, so I figure each one he destroys only costs me about 30 cents, so I don't sweat it. He even watches to see if I will leave any bows or clips laying around (he has an eagle eye) and off he goes with it. If I see him, I can get it back, but he is realllllll sneaky :p |
I have 4 little ones. 2 boys and 2 girls and they all get bows except for 1 of my girls because she just doesn't have a whole lot of hair to pull up. For the others, they have bows or bands every day. My problem is that even after a day of having the bow in and exchanging, I feel that their hair is getting broken off. I wish their was some other way to pull their hair back without having to use a rubberband. Once I fix them, they immediately go and rub their head. Is anyone else having a similar problem with this. Maybe I should just let them go without either for a while. Then I run into the problem of them being able to see. ANY suggestions from anyone? I am sure there has got to be something else besides rubber bands to break their hair, I just haven't found it yet. |
I don't use bows........my hubby throws a fit and a half  I do put an elastic band when he's not home though.......:D |
Benji can't wear bows either....what is up with our guys not letting our babies hair look cute....haha. My maltese, Bella, does have a pony tail all the time and the occasional bow. Her face is too tiny and I haven't found any bows that are small enough for her yet. |
Miko doesn't mind his hair being up, but I don't keep it in a topknot everyday. His hair falls in a way that doesn't get in his eyes, so I don't really cut it either. Sometimes it's up, sometimes it's down. My maltese girl though, has a rubberband/bow in her hair everyday, otherwise her hair goes in her eyes. She doesn't mind at all. She actually prefers it up because it doesn't get in her eyes or tickle her nose. |

My Tini gets a topknot and bow/clip everytime we go out. Started at 10 weeks and she never fussed. Loves her bows cause she knows we are headed out. |

Thanks Hi there, Thanks for the advice.I didnt know that you have to remove the topknot or the rubber bands in their hair every night.I thought you can just leave them in, I am happy that you told me to cut it instead of pulling it. now I know what to do the next time.from now on, ill be removing the band on her hair evrynight. lol. how come I didnt even think about it before??? |
I put Gus's hair up in a topknot and have put bows on him but he was made fun of by the family. They said he already looked like a girl and putting bows is too girlie and that I might as well put a dress on him. Bow or no bow, people will call him a girl no matter how manly I have him dressed! I think the whole bows on boys are ok. It goes with the breed! As a matter of fact, Gus is wearing a bow today! LOL |
My Howie wears boy bows. They have some really cute ones on ebay. He has on a camo one today. I also cut out his rubberbands.;) |
Pepper's hair is long enough for me to put it in a topknot... He's a boy - so what? I'm having problems with tieing the rubber band, I always think it's too tight and pulls hair from the back. His hair is so slippery that the rubber band seems to be slipping off when I'm tieing it :( . Is it possible to use baby-size scrunchies? (I promise I'll steer away from 'girl colors' LOL) |
Coco is realllllly good with bows and elastic but I let her be free when at home. If we have company or we are going out, her hair goes up in a bow. My new little guy will more than likely not be wearing a bow, because he's my boy :D His hair isn't even long enough now but I will keep it pretty short, so he won't need a bow. |
I am trying to find a post I saw the other day. They had their little boys hair pulled back, but the topknot was so far back that it layed almost flat; it was darling, and more masculine. I put sawyers hair up with boy bows, but I let it down a lot also to relax his scalp.:) |
