Anyone had any success getting an adult Yorkie's ears to stand? 1 Attachment(s) Attachment 91306 I got my Buffy as a 13-month old. Yesterday got her ears shaved down, and I taped them after finding a website that explains it. After shaving, the bottoms of the ears stand, but they flop in the middle. I have read that ideally this should be done by age 5 months. Does anyone know of anyone that was successful doing this in a young adult dog? I have to say, she does look cute this way, um, other than the masking tape- |
Yes I have had pet grooming clients that didn't know and their Yorkie was about a year when they had ears shaved. Keep trying wtih keeping the ears shaved and taping. It may take a couple of months. Change the tape every couple of days. I don't use masking tape. Go to your drug store and look for 3M Nexcare plastic tape for taping hospital tubing and at joints. Not the smooth stuff it has little squares on it. Use that, it will allow the ears to breathe. When you take the tape off, massage the ears to increase the circulation. Keep them shaved and retape. |
I've had success with a client's yorkie that I groomed the 1st time at a year old. Shaved her ears and they stood right up. |
Yes, try massaging the ear by gently rubbing it between your fingers going from the base to the top. You can do this while your dog is laying on your lap or next to you...it actually relaxes them. My old vet told me it gets the circulation going to that area and it will help. Our first Yorkie had floppy ears off and on when he was young...I started massaging them while he slept on my lap and in no time both ears were standing full time. Good luck! |
