got clippers - ?'s I got my Andis clippers and some different blades and accessories.... I am kind of at a loss as to changing the blades. So you change the whole thing? Like with the #7, there are two blades together - well not welded... :) I know I sound like an idiot here..... but someone said to use like a 7 but to use a 30 or 40? What does that mean? I did the best I could with them on my schnauzer. She actually looks pretty good - I'm surprised! She was so patient with me! I used a little trimmer on her face and feet but didn't get the hair between her paw pads - not quite sure how. Also her ears... they are floppy ones and I am kind of afraid to get around the edges. Do you use a scissors for that or a clipper? anyhow, sorry for all the ?'s - the Andis is stumping me a bit and the directions that came with it weren't very extensive. omega |
All blades consist of two pieces. The bottom piece moves back and forth and this is how it cuts. Do not take them apart. A #7 blade cuts the hair quite short and would be appropriate for a schnauzers back. Don't use the #7 to clip your schnauzers ears. The ears are very thin and the edge can get caught by the clipper pretty easily. Do you have a #10? If you want the ears clipped short use that. It's safer. Also use a #10 for sanitary areas. After you run the clipper over the surface of the ear (inside and outside) trim the edges with sissors. Protect the ear leather with your fingers and point the tip of the sissors toward the tip of the ear not the base of the ear. You don't need a #30 or #40 blade. The higher the number the shorter the cut. A #30 or #40 would shave your dog bald. I hope this made sense. |

Thank you so much for your help - it clarifies things well! omega |
If possible I would avoid the 7 skip on the body in the future. The way the blade is designed a skip tooth blade goes through a matted coat easier however it also catches and cuts skin easier. If you run a 7 skip down the back of the leg or near an armpit you can take out a slice of skin before you or your dog even notices. If you want a super short cut like that stick with the 7F. If you have to shave a mat out of an armpit use the #10. Now that I think of it, I don't think I would ever use any length skip blade on a yorkie, so unless you also have some bigger thick coated dog you need to shave, I would just put the skip blades away. |

clippers, etc... I did it! I groomed my schnauzer! First time ever. I even did her ears without cutting her! I pulled out the hair inside, and did her nails, too. I am so happy that I did it! It is going to save me so much money in grooming bills... I just can't figure how to get between the paw pads... I also ordered off of e-bay, the Peanut in pink!!! It's the breast cancer one. It was $34.88 with free shipping. I called the Sally store nearby and they charge $49.00 for the regular peanut. Supposedly, now they are "improved," so I'll see how it is when I get it. I also finally got a set of Andis clipper combs yesterday. Come to think of it, I got those on e-bay, too. LOL Anyhow, thanks everyone for your help and if you have any suggestions about the hair between the paw pads, I'd love to hear them! omega |
