please answer! clippers, blades and combs
 
Ok, I just ordered an Andis clipper and it comes with a #10 blade. Do you just use blades to clip the hair or do you use the snap on combs? I need to know what else to order.

It all depends on how long you want the hair to be when you are finished,if you are new to grooming you will find it is almost imposible to injure your dog if you have a snap on attachment. A number 2 snap on and a 40 blade underneath it makes a nice length for their bodies and you can use it on the legs too but it cuts the legs pretty short about a half inch. If you want longer legs either scissor them or use a #1 snap on for the legs.

Also remeber that it is really easy to cut there skin with no gaurd attchment on. really easy on there bellies and around there legs.

I have Andis clippers but I use a 3 3/4 blade without the comb attachment. I find it easy to use and I have never hurt any of my dogs using this blade. It shaves the coat longer but I like it that way. Not sure if I can explain this well, but always hold the blade flat to their body. If it is taking you to long watch the blade is not too hot. I find Yorkie's hair is very easy to clip. I have a Shihtzu and it takes way longer to groom him. I have taken my dogs to different groomers and each one cut my dogs so I learned to do it myself. It may not look real professional but I know when I do it they are happy.

I forgot to mention. The #10 blade will trim your Yorkie very short and be very careful if you decide to use the #10. You would be better purchasing another blade. I know some groomers recommend #5 and #7 but I personally like a little bit longer hair. It is very cold in Saskatchewan.

I ordered a few different blades and also a set of snap on combs. I'm going to practice on my Mini Schnauzer before I try it on my Yorkies. :D
