Tear Stains Does anyone know an effective way to get rid of tear stains. I've been using "Tear Clear" from PetSmart every single night and it seems like it takes a little bit of the stain off, but after about ten days I can't see visible progress. |
Ummmmmmm....I can't help because I am curious to know also. I have the same tear stain remover and haven't had much luck w/ it. Someone suggested using a tear free shampoo on the face about twice a week and using a small (cat) flea comb around the eyes/beard........I am sure there has got to be more solutions. Have you asked your vet? |

Since we started giving Baby Blessing distilled drinking water, we notice that her tearing has almost stopped :) |
Well since I also have a maltese which are notorious for staining, I decided to try some of the suggestions I was given to help with her stains (she is now almost stain free) on my yorkie. I feed him dog products that do not have any ingredients with red such as tomato pumace, cranberry, etc. I also have him on distilled water. And just recently, I started him on angel eyes and remarkably, it seems to have helped with the wetnessand red discharge around his eyes. I give very very small doses. The discharge around his eyes is no longer red. I also "ritually" bath both their faces either morning or night but at least once a day. |
A friend of mine from work has a maltese. She mentioned that she switched her food to one without reds in it and it seems to have improved significantly. I will mention the distilled water though. |
Thanks everyone, I'll try the distilled water. I'm pretty sure none of the food or treats I give her has red dye in it, but I'll double check. I have two yorkies and one, Coco, has a problem with the staining and the other, Zoe, doesn't at all. I'll also ask my vet the next time we go. I never thought to ask her before. |
