First hair cut... when? what is the right age to giving a yorkie a haircut? |
If you plan on having your dog groomed on a regular basis and you are not going to do it yourself, I like them to come to the shop as soon as possible. We have a clean safe shop and I think the puppies have a lot to learn at our shop and a lot of noise to get used to. I find the puppies we start at our shop turn out to be our best clients. I like puppies to come every 4 weeks until they are comfortable and have learned to behave for all aspects of grooming. As far as the first haircut goes that is up to you, but at least by that time the puppy will be use to the bath, clippers, dryers and the grooming table. It is very hard to work on a dog that is a year old or more and afraid because it has never been to a shop for its grooming. This is just how we do it at our shop the sooner the better....... Right now my puppy is only 10 weeks and is a couple weeks away from getting his 3rd series of shots so taking him to a groomer isn't an option at this point but he has a lot of hair covering his paws and behind. Ideally, my plan is to do the grooming myself so i really want to get him used to the process as early as possible. What suggestions do you have? |
Start combing him now and go ahead and carefully trim around his paws and his bum. Comb or brush him dailey so he gets use to it. |
1 Attachment(s) Well I had bathe my pup myself but then I though it was time for a professional bath and cut so I went for a "PUPPY CUT & BATH" and thats only when they clean the ears, trim around their eyes, feet and belly, clip their nails etc. NOTHING MAJOR :D Here's a pic of my lil Bailey after he got his 1st cut it was nothing major but he just looked more handsome he got it done TODAY :D Bailey is 3 1/2 months. |

What does a puppy cut look like, and how do you do it? I am going to keep my male in one even thought he is 10 months old. |
