Hallie's Head---Help Please Okay so I'm not very experienced with grooming and all this stuff so I need some help. I bathe her every two weeks (on Sunday) and brush her everyday (she loves it) but her head is another story. She gets knots right by her ears and I cannot seem to get them out myself. Luckily her groomer combs her when I take her to daycare but I can't rely on that all the time. Should I be using a comb? If so what kind. Should I use a detangler on her head before combing her? If so any suggestions? Thanks~ |
I always use a comb for Sissy. It is a LilPets brand that is metal with two different lengths of combs. Sissy's hair is very fine on her head and it can look greasy easily, so I don't use any product on her head. But, I do comb her head morning and night, including her cheek whiskers and beard whiskers. I comb very gently to get out any sticky food stuff and/or knots. Don't know if this helps or not - good luck to you and Hallie. |
We use a detangeling comb on Grayson with metal teeth that turn, also cowboy magic works great too |
Oh good! So I need to get a comb, can I get one at Petsmart? Or should I order a special one? I think you have a good plan too, combing her morning and night. I will try that :) |
I use only a comb on mine also, a metal one there not that expensive and they seem to help keeping mats down.....:) |
I use a meduim size metal detangler comb on all of mine. Their hair is so thick. i was just brushing and really thought I was doing good with keeping mats out until I bought the comb. oh my, i couldn't believe the mats down next to the skin that the brush had missed. |

I use a comb too and cowboy magic is great for matts |
I got a comb and it has done wonders :) My next question is, how the heck do I get her to sit still while I try to put her hair up? I've only ever used the barrettes or clips but I have all of these great bows that I got from katysbows and from various people. I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I don't have a clue what I'm doing~ |
give her a treat or something to munch on.. maybe a carrot if she likes them?? Kayah won't sit still for topknots either unless she has something in her mouth lol |

Carrots, great idea! I'm going to try that this afternoon! Thanks~ |
Glad the comb is working for you. Just thought I'd share - this is the best comb I've ever used. I got it at one of the pet stores, either PetCo or Petsmart. www.theuntangler.com |

 I use a metal comb too and cowboy magic. I invested in a good quality metal comb that is extremely smooth with no little burs on it that would break delicate hair. The comb is about 6" long and has tines about 1/8" apart at one end and 1/16" apart at the other. If my kids get a little matt, I hold the matt with one hand and use the comb to "tease" it out with the other. Rub in a tiny dab of Cowboy Magic and in no time flat the matts are gone! |

This is when Bully Sticks are a life saver :) |
Well, now I get to brag! :D Abbie will finally sit still for bows n' such, because she knows it's part of her grooming. Sometimes, when we're done, I'll say "OK, all done - good girl!" She'll prance off, shake a little and then come back and sit with her back to me as if to say: "ummm....you missed a spot mom" lol I try not to take too long, though; so as not to belabor her patience. |
Kimberly.. did the trick work for you?? |
I haven't actually tried yet :) My mom has been visiting for the past week so everything here is off schedule and Hallie has had her fill of getting treats "just for being cute" from my mom (haha)! I'm going to try to do her hair today after her bath and I'll let you know :) |
haha.. sounds like my mom:rolleyes: |
I'd like to know which "untangler" you use - ? Big dog, cat, or it looked like there might be one for smaller dogs (but larger than ours). Thanks for the tip... |
