smelly eye gunk ok. i usually bath romeo every sunday. now that it's getting colder i've been skipping a week. i clean his eye gunk out with a warm washcloth and puppy tear free shampoo. then rinse clean. he's getting a weird smell. i picked out some eye gunk and it's coming from there. what's going on? is this because he's not getting completely saturated in the tub? |
I don't know, but I'll be keeping an eye on this thread as the same thing happens with Maddie. Sometimes her eyes run worse than other times and it goes all the way down her beard...and I've noticed a smell also. |
I had a similar problem with Chloe. Turns out, it was a blocked tear duct. The tears are supposed to drain into the sinus and it was blocked. The vet gave me some drops (I think they were 12 bucks) and within a few days, it was gone. I did not notice an odor, however. The vet will probably test for a scratch on the eye, which is what they did with Chloe. Hope you guys figure it out soon! |
Bella's eyes water constantly.. and she's got the goopy eyes too. Going to ask the vet to look at her tear ducts, and maybe see about those drops.. Poor thing, that gunk has got to bother her! I clean it out with a cotton ball with warm water on it.. seems to work ok. |
i have some eye cleaner from the vet. i'm going to give it a try. |

 last night romeo had a bath and his eye gunk looked and smelled like poop. i couldn't get it out and it was smearing all over. a total disaster. |
Me too!! Zoie too has had ultra smelly eye gunk. It was making her whole face stink. I finally used a tearless shampoo and washed it out REALLY good. While I had her in the bath I used a fine tooth comb and combed the eye boogers OUT!!!Then rinsed her again. I have to do this like twice a week to keep her smelling good. |

When I took Bailey into the vets to get shots, I mentioned her eyes were really running. The vet said she had a blocked tear duct and told me to buy Saline eye drops (they are $8.00 @ costco for a twin pack) to put drops in her eyes every night and keep the hair around her eyes trimmed. I usually wash her face with a warm wash cloth or papertowel, put drops in, then use a metal flea comb to comb the gunk out. I bought the flea comb in the cat dept. it is smaller then the ones in the dog dept. Her eyes look very good now. |
My Vet friend recommends the use of REAL cotton Cotton wool balls (not the synthetic type ) with warm water. |
Ummmm....I am going to have to check this out too. This past month, Mojo has had bad tear stains. In fact, this past year, we have noticed his eyes were really running. The vet did give us eye drops, but we do not use them all the time - I think because of something I read in the insert about prolong use of them or something - who knows....with me, I freak out about everything AND I hate taking/giving meds all the time. I will have to check again. Do you have the name of the drops you got from the vet? There is an eye gel you can get from the vet or I have even seen it at http://www.petedge.com to. (can't remember the name - tri???) |
