Any Homemade Grooming Tables? Hello All! I was thinking about converting a baby changing table to a grooming station. Knowing that you all always have such excellent advice, I was wondering if anyone else has any homemade grooming tables. We are on a student's budget here so we try to find thrifty alternatives:) . The lady I bought Ben from also had a baby changing table adapted for her grooming. It was the wood Jenny Lind style and looked like a perfect set up. |
I have a 5 foot base cabinet with a tile counter top in my laundry room that I just place a towel over and groom the boys there...it seems to work well. |
You can really throw one of those rubber mats for the bathtub onto any smooth surface for grooming. I have also cut and glued the rubberized runners that you can also get onto a wood TV tray or anything solid. The dog or puppy won't slip as I find towels tend to slide around. |
grooming table You can also make a grooming table with a 24" X 36" piece of plywood, 1/2" is thick enough for a Yorkie you can go to 3/4" for a stronger table. You can buy the folding legs at hardware stores. Then you can buy the rubberized runner material usually sold in rolls in the hardware stores and they will cut whatever length you want. Glue that onto the surface of your plywood that has had the legs mounted on it and you are set. Instand grooming table that you can also fold the legs to put away or take with you. |
My apartment's pretty limited on space so I'm going to make my own grooming space by taking a piece of plywood, covering it top and bottom with some of that non-skid cupboard liner, and placing it over my bathroom sink (so it fits the entire area of my bathroom counter). I'll glue bracing pieces to the bottom so it will not be able to slide without being lifted and is supported on the ends, and I'll cut a notch for where the tap sticks up. Then I'll just cover it all with a towel when I'm grooming. That way it will provide a non-slip, flat surface that's easy to clean up, and it's close to an electrical outlet for plugging in clippers and blow dryer. That's my plan anyways, a little project I plan on executing in my dad's workshop over the holidays. :D I never said I was handy with a jigsaw...we'll see how it turns out! |
