Using Matrix conditioner on Sparkles? My groomer said that someone told her that they used Matrix, human conditioner, on there yorkie. I thought you should only use shampoos and conditioners that were specially made for dogs? Does anyone have any information about this?:) |
hi...I didn't see any replies so I thought I'd try to help a bit - this is what I've heard - Some showbreeders use Pantene - & I know someone who loved Matrix ....but personally I haven't used either on my girls ...I did read good things about the better human shampoos and conditioners as far as shine etc.... The thing I would do is use it as an alterative and try to stay with good DOG Shampoos so the hair doesn't dry out. |
From what I understand, the Yorkie coat is very similar to human hair. That said, they do still have a doggie's skin, so one must be very careful what they use on these pups. The key, my groomer informed me, is RINSE RINSE RINSE! Making sure that everything is rinsed away is very important. You can use high-end, quality human shampoos and conditioners on Yorkies, something that's moisturizing. Using baby shampoo on their faces helps to ensure that their eyes don't get irritated, also. I'd always used human products on Starr and she never had any itching, and her coat was gorgeous. Rinsing well is the ultimate key, though. Try the Matrix and then watch for any skin reaction. If there is none, then it'll be fine to use. I liked to use the Bath and Body works Moisturizing shampoos and conditioners on Starr, cuz they smelled so good. |
I have used Matrix Sleek Look for MYSELF for years now, and it works great. But I have a funny story. I bought Loki Cloud Star's Buddy Wash and Buddy Rinse. A while back I was looking for a decent shampoo/conditioner that didn't have anything toxic or "bad" in it, etc. and I had a difficult time. If I did find any with "good" ingredients, they smelled horrible. Finally one day I read the label on Loki's Buddy Wash and it was exactly what I was looking for. There is actually NO soap in the shampoo and the conditioner rinses out completely. The back of the label actually says it was not tested on animals and is perfectly safe for humans. So yes, I stole Loki's shampoo and conditioner. It smells like lavendar and mint. It's cheaper than my Matrix too! Now I keep Loki clipped really short, but I still find it's best to comb it through wet. People always comment on his coat even though he has a really cottony coat. People constantly say that "Oh he just got groomed!" even if it's 6 weeks since he's been to the groomer and a week since he's had a bath! |
Thanks everyone. Sparkles has a cottony coat to and sometimes it is curly on the ends and I was just trying to find a way to get it to calm down a little bit.:D |
i think i read that we should use dog shampoo because human shampoo is the wrong ph. if i run out i do use matrix biolage on romeo. it smells good, but it burns his eyes. |
