clippers on the head I"m taking a grooming course. I know that some dogs who will come to me will not want their hair long on the face. The videos show someone cutting the hair (gathering and using scissors) like a barber. I don't trust myself to be good at evening thing out. Couldn't we just use a clipper on the head and use the scissors for evening afterwards and doing the visor? Also, I like a short beard on a yorkie but yet I am keeping mine with a medium coat. Do you use clippers on the beard or scissors? suzie |
If you are taking a course , what on earth are they teaching you????? |
grooming I use a clipper guard on the head and body if needed...they come in different lengths..good luck |
It is a home study course. The nearest dog grooming school is 2hrs away and thousands of dollars. I just want to learn basic grooming. I don't need to be a master groomer or do anything fancy. Every groomer (and there were many) that I took my yorkie to in the past did basic things..I figured...I can save money and do it myself. On the videos they are scissoring the head like a barber...I don't know if I could do that well or not. Suzie |
For your basic grooming an attachment will work best for you to shorten the head. but keep trying to get the nice scissor finished head. Do you have a pair of thinning shears. They will really help you. If you need to know which pair let me know and I will help. Grooming is a very serious job and should not be taken lightly as many dogs die and are injured from groomers not knowing how to handle dogs properly. When you scissor the head or anything else for that matter do not let your scissor hand bounce keep it still , go slow , make sure the yorkies ears and tongue's are always held out of the scissor path..... Learning to groom this way is not the best, go and watch as many groomers as you can, maybe you can offer to bath dogs for free for a groomer if she would help you a bit. Where do you live? Yes, I know how serious it is. I have tried to get jobs as a bather but my schedule is just too scattered. I am very careful and I think the course I'm taking is good but I don't think it will teach me to be some master groomer or do anything fancy. I've done good with my own dog. I can ask them questions too but just wanted to see what "yorkie" people do with grooming. I live in upstate NY. suz |
