Dandruff! I was playing with Gracie's tummy hair tonight and noticed she had some flakes. This is the first time I noticed flakes. She has been scratching quite a bit ever since I got her. The vet found no reason for the scratching, saying it was just probably her coat changing. I have been using an organic oatmeal shampoo, very mild, and just started with the Cowboy Magic a few days ago. She gets a bath once a week. Should I be using something else to bathe her, or should I be supplementing her diet with something? She is eating quality food. Thanks! |
Im A New Yorkie Owner So I Dont Know That Much But I Was Told That Puppies Should Not Get Baths That Often As Their Skin Is So Sensitive And Could Flake And Itch From Drying Out....not Sure If Thats Whats Going On But I Noticed It With My Guy To And After Waiting 3 Weeks He Was Back To Normal. I Have Also Heard It Suggested To Use "people" Conditioner For Extra Moisture. Dont Know If It Helps But Thats What I Have Been Told. |
romeo had a problem with dry/itchy skin. i changed his food to nutro lamb and rice. (food with corn can cause skin problems) we also use super 5 supplement from wellness. it's all natural so no need to worry about overdosing. i also use organic shampoo / conditioner with oatmeal. his skin and coat look great now. http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com/dogs...Sup5Supplement |
Jewels used to have dandruff before I started using Missing Link |
My lab mix had the exact same problem. My Dad recommended Lanatone (fatty acids) that I mix with her food and within a week it had stopped. Her coat is sooo shiny and healthy looking now. It's relatively inexpensive as we order it by the gallon from Dog.com. |
My first thought was the corn in the Royal Canin tiny puppy dry food. Problem is, it's the only dry food she will eat. She has itched ever since I got her, before I got her onto the Royal Canin. I think I will try to supplement her before switching her food. It has been so hard to get her to eat any dry food at all! Even now, I can only get away with a mix of 2/3 wet, 1/3 dry. Thanks everyone! |
try oatmeal shampoo and conditioner, lexi's itches were gone,i also did change her food to merricks,,no more itching |
Well, I feed Chicken Soup Puppy and Canidae, neither of which have corn or wheat and are both super premium, I give Missing Link, bathe with gentle shampoo, and Hobbs STILL has dandruff! I'm now looking into the Apple Cider Vinegar. They say that if you dilute it and rinse them with it after baths then it helps dramtically and it's organic, which I'm a big fan of. I did just recently switch from a flea shampoo to a more gentle shampoo, so I'm hoping with more repeated usage and adding the ACV that his dandruff will get better. |
