inside ear hair
 
How do you cut the inside of the ear...hair..I was wondering if anyone uses a special tool (like the nose cutting tool) or do you use round tipped scissors?

Are you talking about the hair in the ear canal? If so, don't cut it. You can sprinkle some ear powder on it if you want, then wrap it around some tweezers and give it a good yank!:eek: Yes, I'm serious.:)

LOL! yes....ear canal hair! what is and, where do I buy ear powder? would you just grab the hair with the tweezers, twist and pull?

You don't even have to use the powder. It's available at all of the doggie supply stores, like Petsmart... Just get a bunch of it in your fingers, wrap it around some tweezers or something like that and yank. They don't really feel it much. Honest. They get used to it eventually. Sometimes it doesn't really grow back much.

Actually, the ear powder does help keep their ears dry in the canal and helps to prevent infections.

I'd just like to clarify that you should not just "grab a bunch", rather take a little bit at a time. You can use tweezers or hemastats if you have them. (I actually like hemastats better, they don't slip off of the hair.) Be careful not to grab skin inside the ear and get the hair just as close to the base of the shaft of the hair as possible. Pull with swift straight strokes. If there's a lot of hair, you may want to take a break every once in a while and you can gently massage the ear after pulling the hair. It'll help to take any pain away. And of course, give 'em a treat when you're done - they'll remember that it's not always a bad thing to sit in your lap and let you look in their ears. ;)

I leave the hair in my Yorkie's ear canals alone. They have never had an ear infection. If ear infections are a problem, only then would I consider using the powder and pulling the hairs out.
