trimming ears? 1 Attachment(s) Coco is 8 weeks and her ears don't stand up. When should they start standing up and when should i trim the hair on her ears? And how exactly do i trim them? What do I use? |

I trimmed Abbie's ears (as I recall) in her ninth week. I was soooo nervous. I didn't have clippers, so used a very sharp scissor (I know........BAD me!), and thank God, I didn't snip her! But, I was very careful and took much time with the hair on her ears. It helped that she wasn't tooooooooo squirmy. Anyway, we got the job done, and the next day her ears popped up just from getting the weight of the hair off! Now, I use a moustache trimmer just on the tips. Try doing her when she's sleeping. Good luck - Be brave - and be CAREFUL! ;) |

I got Bella when she was 13 wks old and her ears were not up yet. One went up at around 14 wks and then the other about a wk later. |

Gracie's right ear did not go up until she was about 14 1/2 weeks old. The left one still has not. I use a personal trimmer/mustache trimmer. I shave the ear inside and out, about the top 1/3. |

Some people worry aobut it at 8 weeks, but I wouldn't bother with them till 12 weeks or even older |

When I got Sophie she was 14 weeks old and her ears did not stand up. The lady I got her from shaved the top 1/2 of her ears and taped them together with masking tape. I took off the masking tape the next day as I wanted to ask my vet about taping. She said it is o.k. as long as it does not seem to be bothering them. I taped them up for jusdt two days and then took the tape off whe I gave her a bath and voila I had true Yorkie ears. Her ears now stand up most of the time (they are floppy when she is sleepy) but they are up during the day and i could not be happier. I think floppy ears are cute, but I got Sophie because I like the look of the true Yorkie! I am continuing to shave 1/3 of her ears until I am positive they are all the way up. |

you could go ahead and shave them down 1/3 to help with the weight on the ear, and if they don't go up in the next few weeks take her to the vet and have them tape them for you....:) |

 do i use a regular razor? |

No, does any one have a mustache trimmer or something like that...Or do you know of anyone that grooms near you they wouldn't charge you much..I even bet if you take her to the vet the would do it and tape them for you.....:) |
