Questions...Conditioner First question; Marilynn has a cottony(?) coat, I believe. Anyway, I have had fun time trying to find something to work with her hair that I can easily get, doesn't break the bank, and WORKS! The problem is I've tried everything. Eventually after a few days, her hair goes right back to pre-bath stage, she looks like she's been stuck in a light socket! Her hair becomes [I]more matted[I] than before, and sticky. I know I'm rinsing well enough, I just have no idea what to do. Even Children's Spray de-tangler doesn't work (I'm in the process of finding CW). I was wondering if there is a home remedy for conditioner, like the kind that works for people too. Is there anything off the beaten track anyone uses in a pinch? Second question; She is so matted I am have made the decision to groom her, however, I will be doing it myself. She doesn't not do well at the groomers, snaps and growls. I also am setting the bar pretty high for myself, I want to do a lion cut on her. Does anyone have any tips or pictures, pictures would be GREAT!!! As I have 1 picture of what I would like done and can't seem to find any others after extensive searching. Her doggy shampoo says moisturizing, but it seems to dry her hair out more. The pet shop suggested oatmeal shampoo, at this point I'm so skeptical of anything for her. Any ideas? |
Something I have found that works is brushing the hair through when you have the conditioner on. I use CC shampoo and conditioner. Also another good thing for cottony coats is cowboy magic detangler. Chachi has an extreme cotton coat and I have just felt its best to keep his hair short. |
I was having problems with Cali's coat matting so I took her to the groomers last week and she got her all nice and matt free and said she sprayed something on her to help prevent mats. Well almost a week later we have no mats at all. I called and asked her waht she used on her and she said its by Tomlyn called Pro Sheen grooming spray. I looked for it at Petsmart but they didn't have it so I am going to get it online. It's really inexpensive, like 5.00. The company is also the maker of Nutrical. I also use CC Ice on Ice and Cowboy magic but I am going to try this new stuff. Also I have kept a brush close by and brush her quickly 3-4 times a day, |
I'm still swearing by the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle:p |
Yes, I second the Aussie 3 minute miracle. Zoie also has the cotton coat and this keeps her soft and helps with the matting. Also, keeping her groomed once a month also helps. The groomer keeps her in a silhouette cut. Cowboy Magic worked pretty well (although after a few days it was back to normal) as did the Show Sheen that I bought. Using the 3 minute miracle reg. really helps though. |
I use Redken all soft shampoo & anti snap on mine....It works great on mine....:) |
Before I got Cowboy magic, I used the conditioner that comes in Preference hair coloring. I can't use it on my own hair because it makes it too fine and limp, so I figured it might work on Ollie. I have no problems using Cowboy Magic. I think I'm going to get some of that Pro Sheen grooming spray. . |
What I found with the Cowboy Magic is that it made her cpat greasy in a couple of days. This Pro Sheen she still looks clean and no frizzy hair. I ordered it just now from Amazon.com and it was 4.99. |

Well after extensive online searching of local Cowboy Magic dealers I finnaly found one that wasn't too out of the way. So I got the Conditioning Shampoo and Detangle and Shine last night after work. It worked wonders! It's like a whole different dog! All her mats came out, her hair is soft, shiny and moves when she runs! Although, I think I used a little too much Detangler, she's kinda greasy in spots, but ALL HER MATTS ARE GONE!! I think thats a fair enough trade. That was the best money I have spent in a long time, I'm a believer now. I think I am also going to pick up some 3 Minute Miracle and see about alternating CM and Aussie. Now I just have to groom her....... |
I took yorkieangel's advice and use the Aussie 3 minute miracle and swear by it. Not only does her coat feel soft she smells incredible. |

Aussie 3 min miracle is wonderful for us!!! I have tried many different kinds of conditioner and this works better for us. It has tea tree oil in it and from what I have read that is good for the skin and coat. Anyone else know anythng about it? |
