Ears/Shaving How do you get yours sit still, when shaving ears? Zoey is so afraid of it. I think its the noise? Should I be usung something else? I've tried treats, but she she spits them out. |
Just be persistent. Maybe have a some rounds of turning the shaver on near her and give her treats while listening to the sound. Wave it around near her, and just let her get used to the sound and let her understand that she's not going to get hurt by it. THen slowly introduce really quick sessions of snipping just a bit of hair off at a time and gradually do more and more. Good Luck |
Try turning it on and just laying it next to you when she's in your lap. Do this a number of times and see if she begins to get used to it that way. Let her check it out, so that she can see it won't hurt her. That's my best suggestion and I'm sticking to it!:D |
thank you Thank you for your advice! It worked! She is still not too crazy about it....but I got it done. My husband helped me tonight and she seemed better. This is my first time trying. I think I trimmed too much off on the sides. But I know it will grow back. Do you know what age you should start trimming ears? I was always just a big chicken! But I feel better.....Thank you.... |
I think it takes 2 people to shave Yorkie's ears... Just because they are so squirmy. I was the one holding Pepper and hubby held the clippers, after a few snips the pup just lied as flat as he could and didn't even peep until we were over with. But I was getting all sweaty just thinking we might cut him... I'm a big chicken too... |
i groom lexi all by myself, i put her up on the counter with cheerios and i get the job done, whether its her ears, undercoat, legs, face, cheerios does it for me... |
Yorkie Ears Personally I like the way a couple of mine look with all the hair on them. :aimeeyork :animal-pa |
I put Gracie someplace where I know she will stand still, usually on the dining room table or the kitchen counter. She seems to be afraid of heights and won't budge! I also occupy her with treats and lots of praise. Another option is to harness the babe into a carrier. |
I have my husband hold Sadie...Lillie is 13 weeks old so she really isnt used to it yet...so it isn't to easy to do her..she'll get used to it though.. I have a question on ear shaving...How far down do you shave a puppies ears? I have been shaving her entire ear but I don't know if this is necessary...I only shave Sadies about 1/3 from the tip. |
Others here have mentioned the top 1/3, inside and out. That is what I have been doing. Ears are still not up though! The right one is almost there. |
My youngest puppies are 7 weeks and I shaved their entire ear last weekend while grooming to help them stand. They look funny! I've always just shaved the top 1/3 until I read someone on here saying to shave all the way down to the base. Anyway, I found a great way to hold mine, but they are small. I put them on my lap and wrap my T-shirt up over their body and tuck it under them. I could feel their little bodies relax and I got them totally shaved without so much as a wimper. When I was done, I gave them a snuggle and praised them and they were running around like little jack rabbits again! |
