how much hair Is it normal for hair to come out on the comb while your combing? I know some is, but how much is normal? I always wet her down when I comb her, but it seems like she loses a lot of hair, maybe 2 small clumps each time. I'm afraid of her coat getting to thin. |

maybe you need a comb with wider teeth. i use a wide tooth comb on romeo. just to avoid pulling his hair and hurting him. it takes longer to comb him , but minimal hair loss. |
I think at some point they lose some of their puppy coat, seems like Tink did around 10 months. How old is Lillie now? |
Missy - do you think she is losing hair because it is tangled, or just normal hair coming out? I use a small comb and get a very small amount of hair when I comb Sissy. The only time I have gotten more than that minimal amount was with a mat that I combed out. Maybe a detangling conditioner spray before you brush her would help, too? |
With Allie and K.C., adults, very little hair comes out. They are silk coated and rarely tangle. Kelsey Bear on the other hand is 9 months, very thick coated, can fill up a whole brush, but with all of her hair it is not missed! The only thing that concerns me is that you think her coat is getting too thin. If her hair kind of matts close to the body and looks a little fuzzy next to the skin it is probably just the baby coat changing to the adult coat. If you are losing long silky hairs and feeding a high quality dog food, I would take her in for a blood test and see if anything looks out of balance or try improving her diet by adding a supplement with Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. |

We always get some hair in the brush whenever I brush them, but never clumps. But both of mine have puppy cuts, so there's not much that can come out anyway. And they both stay matt-free so there are rarely tangles to pull out. |
I was just wondering about this also! Duncan is 11 months and I was starting to worry if this was his adult coat, because is tangles very easily and gets little knots close to the skin  I got a one of those combs that they use to cut off the under coat on dogs that do have under coat from wal-mart for about 10.00, they use to show this comb on TV. This works really good to take off the little knots leaving the rest of the hair alone. I got this comb because I was afraid of pulling the hair and damaging the root, I could be very wrong...lol I also use the Ice on Ice or when I have not brushed him in a week I use water with Conditioner, before combing. This also works good for Maltese that have hair like cotton candy..lol But on Melissa I spray her with a little oil and I use that same comb. I started about 3 wks ago giving him Lipiderm for the skin and coat. I hope his hair changes, this coat is a lot of work. I love brushing my furkids, but they don't like it when they have knots.. :D |
Is it possible that at 15 months that Cali is changing from puppy to adult coat? I also am getting quite a bit of hair when I brush her and I brush and comb her every day and use Ics on Ice spray. Her coat is still pitch black but a few silver hairs are coming in? IS 15 months to late for an adulkt coat to come in? |
