Plucked ears!!! Chewy got his ears plucked today and it was very sad! It hurts them! I go to pet smart and I tell them I need to go in with them and help them hold him. They let me! I want to know they are being kind and loving to my baby and I am right there to help him through it. The girl was really nice and she didn't even charge me! I guess after the first time if you keep up with the ears it isn't as bad after that... just get them plucked every month. Is this true??? Please tell me it gets better... I hate to think it will hurt that much every time! |

Me too! I have them trim the hair instead. |
Fuzzy little ears! Well I must have overlooked that thread! Every thing I have read says they should have this done...(I bought a book on Yorkies!) I did run into a woman that had a Yorkie and her baby had an ear infection. Her vet shaved the hair out of his ears. The woman that groomed Chewy said if water gets in there it can cause an ear infection and that you should also get this product that goes in the ear after a bath and it gets the water out. Any one know what she's talking about? I'm not thrilled about pouring stuff in Chewy's ears!:idontknow |
well i have never heard of that stuff.. but Layla just got her ears plucked yesterday for the first time.. and she didn't care... i told the girl i was too nervous to watch and she said just hold on and see... and layla didn't even flinch... i don't know much about the "technique" but she used this powder stuff to get a grip of the hair and then used her fingers.. and in like 2 minutes both ears were done.. i like having her ears free of hair because i too read about ear infections and that they should have it done.. also it is easier for me to clean them with wipes without all the hair in the way. Not sure if this helped.. lol... |
I have always read and been told to pluck their ears. As for one thing the wax can attach on the hair and cause ear infections and also the hair can sometimes cause irritations. My vet plucked my babies the first time, they didn't yelp and he said its no different from us plucking our eyebrows :) |
I don't know I went to try and pluck Diesel's ears once and he screamed so I stopped and didn't do it again. We all have hair in our ears and our noses to help protect us. I figure that is applies to animals too. I just try to keep his ears clean and just trim the hairs. When I got him groomed a few weeks ago she didn't pluck his ears either only trimmed them. I have been plucking the hair from my kids ears (all 3 of them) at grooming time since they were little. They just lay there and let me do it. Not once have they acted at all like it was hurting them. I use a rounded rubber tip tweezers for the deeper hairs and my fingers with alittle ear powder for the longs ones. Trick is pluck FAST. My vet told me it should be done. |
I have always been told by my vet to do it. Sophie has never acted like it hurt her at all. I do it myself.:) |
I didn't know you were suppose to do it so I started doing it about 5 months ago its been a while but Abigail was over a year old and it didn't bother her at all. One that thing that you need to do is use the ear powder it doesn't hurt them as bad. My boyfriend's mom does their poodle and she doesn't use the powder and he screams I have always used the powder on Abigail and Summer and they don't mind at all. I just put the powder in their ears and pull the hair out with tweezer but you have to be careful not to pull too much out at one time. |
if someone pulled hair outta your ears, wouldnt it hurt??? it has to hurt i would guess.. i dont get lexi's pulled, dont think she needs it...i would just trim it if she needed it. thats painful |
i did brownies a couple weeks ago hes a big baby when it comes to anything & he just layed there didnt even flinch |
