Grooming Problems I have a 3 year old yorkie name Boon. He previously belonged to my sister, who had him since he was a puppy. He has tons of energy and can be aggressive at times, but we are trying to correct that behavior. I took him to Petsmart to get groomed, but received a call to come pick him up because he kept trying to bite the groomer and she wasn't able to cut his hair. We called the vet and ended up having to sedate Boon so he could be groomed. I don't understand this because he has always been groomed regularly and has never had any problems before. Any advice? |
Hmmm...that's kinda strange if he had been groomed regularly before. Does he have any cuts or bruises or something like that that may have been hurting him while they were messing/grooming him? Or maybe the groomers at petsmart hurt him or scared him or something and that caused him to act up there and the behavior just continued on over to the vets? How does he do with you? Try brushing him and maybe even getting some clippers out and trying running them down him while they are on. You can use the handle, just so he feels the vibration. |
I think I would tend to agree.. she probably just didnt know how to deal with him. probbly not the poor Boon's fault. do you bathe him at hom your self? or has he always been to a groomer? welcome to YT by the way. |
I agree with all of the above something has happened to Boon of he is hurting |
Try giving him a treat as U're grooming him...Sometimes if my babies get up and want to run while I'm grooming them I pull out the treats...And they sit right there and I always give ALL 5 of them Treats after they are each done grooming. Maybe this would help. Groomiong Aggression? Who groomed the dog before you acquired him? Is it possible that groomer was rough, and created Boon's problems? Perhaps you should groom him yourself, a little each day, to teach him his manners, or to teach him that it is not necessary to be hurt when groomed. If he is aggressive, you can muzzle with a small muzzle, or even a figure eight using a nylon, just enough to keep him from snapping. Then, re-train him for grooming. Once he realizes he cannot get away with snapping, and that grooming does NOT hurt, he will begin to improve. If he is nasty simply because he wants to be, then the muzzle and gentle discipline should help. |
