Coat Colour Linked To Skin Condition? 4 Attachment(s) Kia has a cottony coat, but as long as I keep her bathed every week or so, it looks fine. However, along her loins she has some sensitive skin-it is generally slghtly pink, and itchy. It is not a hot spot, but a dry/allergenic/'warm' area. Her coat is a different colour at this point-grey rather than more blue and makes Kia look a little odd. I have changed her diet to one with no corn, and am very careful about anything she eats. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what have you done to correct it? ps; I added this to another post topic by mistake this morning. |
the skin condition may be causing the coat colour but may not. Her skin condition very likely could be food allergy. Corn is the most common allergen in dogs. I have seen that colouring in Yorkies that don't have skin problem issues. |
I think that is the silkiest cottony dog I've ever seen. The hair parts just like it should and doesn't stand out. Is that product that you use, or does it do it by itself?? Beautiful colors in the coat BTW. I can't help with the skin condition question, sorry. |
I just took Chewie in for his 9 month check-up and shots. He has also had a itchy rashy place in the same area. I would Dr. it with antibotic cream and put some medicated powder on it and it would get better, then bad again. The vet said it was an allergy. Probably a contact dermatitis, and probably the grass in my back yard. He gave him a cortisone shot and put him on some steroids for 10 days. They next day the rash was gone and hasn't come back. The vet said he is guessing about what the allergy is to, and we probably won't know till next summer if it comes back again at the same time of year, it is probably the pollen. He also checked his ears and they were a little red and on the way to an infection. He has some drops and they look better. He said it is all related. As far as the coat color, I haven't the slightest idea. Chewie is cut short for the summer and only 9 months old. But the hair in the area of the rash is a lighter color.Hope this helped you a little. |
