need some grooming advice... hair breaking, brushes, coat questions and more! hi everyone its been awhile since i have posted and i miss this site so much... family stuff got crazy but i'm back and with questions! snickers is now 9months old (i can't believe it) and i noticed her hair seemed to be breaking a bit i am thinking its the brush and/or not using the shampoo and looking for some guidence... i was using the cc systems day to day 4step program with a pin brush from petsmart... i think im ready to upgrade to the highly recommended cc gold series pin brush but didnt know if i needed a 20mm or the 27mm... also will that help with my hair breaking problem? also there seems to be controversy do brush her wet or dry and if wet what to spray her with before brushing? i was using ice on ice but still having this breaking problem and her coat has seemed to really slowed growth. I am feeding her Nutro and that helped with the coat and the dryness but i dont know what the next step is... is there a better shampoo/system for her coat? also she is 9months now... is this her adult coat and how do i tell? i think she has/will have a silky coat her eyes always shine green in her pics and she parts in the middle of her back and has this grayish color coat... but it doesnt "feel" silky? how does that work... sorry for all the questions you guys have always been so great and helpful :) i am back and will be posting more.... |
I know I have read where you shouldn't use a pin brush with the little balls on the ends. They say that will break their hair off. I have not been through this personally but thats just what they all say. They said to just buy the straight pins. And, you might be using that...but maybe that will help out if not! :) ;) |
dry or wet? There are different answers to this question. Very confusing... I spray Infusium 23 frizz control leave-in treatment on dry hair and use Aussie 3 min.miracle Deeep conditioner. Both work wonderful but still don't know if I should use the spray on dry or wet hair. |

I was using the same combo as you but found the pantene spray in leave in worked a bit better themn the infusium. I spray in when the hair is about half dry. if I do it when WET it gets too diluted and if I do it when DRY... it goes flat but is kinda LIMP:rolleyes: |
well i have been using a pin brush i got from petsmart as well it is the solid medal not the plastic tipped and i use and oatmeal shampoo from groomax and goldmedal pets conditioner then i spray with miracle coat leave in after i bolwdry and then i brush him i always spray the leave in when i brush him but i'm not an expert he is 14 weeks and i have noticed hair coming out on the brush so i am assuming it is his puppy coat starting to come out but i'm not sure? He is soft but not silky like i want and his hair does seem a little dry i want to go buy some cowboy magic and try it but haven't had the money or time to get down there. so if you find something that works let me know to.I'm sure someone has a good answer here. |
So true, do not use the plastic tipped pin brushes. It ruin the coat.. Have you tried products from Vellus?? Specially for yorks... I really love the shampoo and conditioner.. Give your dog a bath, and then use the Vellus Satin Creme. Mixed in a little bottle with some satin creme and water. Spray in your hands and groom with hands trough the coat. Then blow dry (not warm) and brush at the same time!!! You can also add some more after your dog is brushed and blow dried... I think the only thing that helps from breaking is to oil the coat and role it in paper.... www.vellus.com |
