I could cry. How do you find a decent groomer?????? My puppy is 7 months old and has been groomed twice. The first time (at Petsmart) they shaved him and he looked like a chihuahua. I just had him done today at a different groomer, and now he looks like a schnauser. I wish I knew how to do it myself! |
one word: research. sorry to hear about your baby. try a private groomer. |
I agree - ask around...if you go to meetups - ask people there- and check with your vet - they may know a good groomer too. This has some grooming tips if you want a general idea of what to do yourself http://www.ytca.org/grooming_clips1.html http://www.yorkie.org/dogs/grooming_yorkies.html |
Also I think you have to give a really good description of what you want, maybe even take in photos. I know a few people even write down what they want and take it in. Different groomers have their own ideas of what a cut is, like one groomer may keep the hair so long for a puppy cut then the next practically shave it all off. Listen to me say this....I've only been to a groomer once and all he did was trim her beard, ears, and feet(which I didn't care for). I sure am sounding like I know what I'm talking about aren't I? Anyway, I also think if its something small, like the feet for me, then you could still give them one more shot. Next time I go in I'll make sure to tell them to skip the feet. If they butchered your pup or didn't listen to a thing you said then forget it, I wouldn't go back, but otherwise the more you go the better you'll get to know how your groomer works and the better your groomer will get to know what you like. You could also ask if they let you stay, the first time at least. That way you could watch and tell them exactly what you do and do not want as they go along. Good luck with that search.... |
I agree with Courtney. I was SO nervous to go to the groomers for a puppy cut but I printed a picture of what I wanted and brought that with me. The groomer thankfully followed the cut in the picture and I was very happy. What's nice about it now is I'm able to do the upkeep on the cut myself. I'm sure you could teach yourself. I started doing just a little at a time like the ears, feet and around the eyes and now I whip the clippers out! :p |
