How to trim the ear hair? I tried to trim Mia's ear hair today, and boy was it a disaster. She kept wiggling and moving. How do I keep her still? Also, how much do I trim? I remember reading that the top 1/3 of the hair is cut or something, but I can't recall the exact instructions. Any help would be appreciated. |
Yesterday we shaved ALL of Rocky, excluding his head and face. It was difficult because he also kept moving around. I would hold him still, my bf would shave. If you have someone to hold him while you cut her hair, I would do that. Kind of hold her neck and body under your arm (but don't hold too tight, make sure she can still breath and yoru not squeezing her). Cut away from the ears/face too so that way if she does move real quick, her skin won't get in the way. It will probably take trial and error, as it did w/ Rocky. He would be good for so long, then got excited and had to run around, so we let him do that for a minute or 2 until he was ready to sit still again. Also, if she knows the "stay" command", use that. Tell her "No" when she tries to move. It might take long at first, but hopefully she'll get used to it after you do it a few times. Just remember patients is key because you don't want to cut her. Good luck! Another thing is to try and distract her w/ something, so she focuses on that instead of what your doing to her ears. |
I always wait til they are sleeping to trim the hair on my babies ears. Wear them out by playing for a while then when they are so tired then try it. She hardly moves when I do it. This is how I do their nails as well. |
You could also get them use to the sound before actually trimming. Sometimes the sound is what scares them. |
i also wait till they are asleep to trim the ear hair with scissors it's a lot less stressful. i do beleive it is the top 1/3 of the ear and into a v shape. If the ears are down i would shave as much and as close as possible. |
I just last week trimmed ALL my dogs hair off ALL thier ears...I love them that way, I think they looks so cute, and I used my hubby's beard trimmers they are made by Conair and has different attachments for different lengths...And I had NO trouble what so ever with my adults doing it, the babies are 12 weeks old and they was a little scared but my hubby gave them each treats while I was doing the trimming and he did the holding. Maybe this would be an idea for U??
