my groomer charged 55 dollars and with a tip, 65.00... , i do it myself now

GracieLou 02-23-2007 01:46 PM

it costs me $10 a month it is my cousins wife who is the groomer ... she gets all privates ,ears, feet and everything trimmed etc for just that !

Jaxon's mom 02-23-2007 05:06 PM

Jaxon goes to the groomers every 6 to 8 weeks (more often than I get my own hair cut!!). It's $35 each time but I always says it's worth it.

hunniebunnie 02-23-2007 05:24 PM

my boys get done every 8 weeks. it costs $45 each. they get their nails trimmed 1x in between. that's $10 each. they use the same shampoo and conditioner as me, so i don't consider that as an extra, special cost. they get bathed once every 7-10 days and i do it myself.

I am A Mobile Groomer

In Phoenix area. I charge for a full groom with trim, $55. For a bath, sanitary and nails some scissoring $50. With gas prices and my generator running off gas, I don't know how it will go. Mobile is a personal one dog at a time, low stress way for a sensative lil' yorkie to be groomed. I noticed one owner here uses good products like Les Pooch brush, professional shampoo, dryer etc. All dogs need regular grooming, be it professional ort by owner. As for teeth brushing if there is tasrter it only irratates the gums and opens them up for infection. I sell a gel that is all natural grapefruit seed extract and other ingredients that disolves the tarter in 30-60 days with twice daily use. IT WORKS! Once clean every few days a week or so. It appears that all you members here care very much for your furbabies and take excellent care of them. I salute you.

Mom to Hot Rod 05-11-2008 05:45 AM

I pay about 35-45 for Hot Rod every 2 months. We bath him in between and I comb him daily and brush his teeth myself.

Sloan 05-11-2008 06:35 AM

I've taken my pup to the groomer once about 6 weeks ago and he has another appointment scheduled for tomorrow. She charged $35 and then with tip it was $40. It was his first time so she said he was a bit scared of the clippers so she couldn't get his face very short and he was a bit choppy in other places too. Not sure if it will be much better tomorrow. We shall see...

I have not used cowboy magic yet but hear from other groomers it is great for removing tangles. It is slippery and maybe silicone based. As for demineralizer.....never heard of it. Senproco makes Coat Handler. Natural, gentle and best I have found for Yorkie coats.

If they want to bring them every month I will lower the cost..
like for a yorkie 10 bls or less..not badly matted $25.00.
5wks..i will add $3.00 an so on.
this is for normal maintance..flea,shedding, any speical shampoos are extra
example..I had a lg english sheep dog come in so badly matted it tooks 3 hrs to shave him down and look good. we charge $60.00 (cheap)
but now she brings him in every 5 wks and I only charge her 30
he is looking really good now.and she can afford to keep Duke looking sweet and handsome. I will work out something with my customer if they can not afford it..

He was much much better this time. I took pictures in of the puppy cut showing her exactly what I wanted it to look like this time and she did a great job. She said he held very still this time & that he was a very good boy.....of course, I already knew THAT.

How do you groomers get them to stand so still for you? It truly amazes me, what a skill! I'm so impressed.:clapsmile.....I know he wouldn't be that cooperative for me, he puts up quite a fuss just when I give him a bath.

$60 holy crap thats cheap. I would of charged a base price of 90 plus extra for the time it took to shave him down.

wemple2 05-16-2008 06:29 PM

Winston goes to the groomer every 2 weeks...$14.00 per visit. I have used the same wonderful groomer for 16 years. When she moved from one vet's office to another...I went with her. Wouldn't trade her for the world...she's great!

tapiocagirl 05-16-2008 06:36 PM

Mobile Is Always more

because of the distance and gas prices going up, up, up and my profit going down. I was stood up today for a 2 dog family and I even went after my cut off time. I waited 30 minutes with A/C on. I don't have her newest phone # and she has not called me after I left 2 cards. One on the garage door and one on the front door. I have to charge more to cover situations like this. $25 is too low for the USA average price, so is the other for the larger dog.

tumismom 05-16-2008 06:45 PM

i get mine done every month and it's about $75 for each girl. Now that i have three it will be $75x3...oh dear..lol:D

I wish there were mobile groomers here.. I get 4 yorkies done in florida at the same time and it is 80.00.. but since they are not yorkie people.. I do any cutting..not that good at it ... but when in canada.. I groom mostly myself.. it gets too expensive with 4.. in fact I just groomed tonight..took me two hours and that was not rushing at all...
I think in florida the more dogs you have they give a better price..for it is only one stop...anne

:eek:Even mobile, you are paying way too much. I have 30+ yrs exp. and don't charge that. Are they getting highlites put in their hair? LOL I also use Spalavish great smelling colognes.

Keno 05-18-2008 05:22 AM

$45 PLUS $10 tip!

Do you live right in the city of New York? That would explain the cost. Unless you do the grooming yourselves, I can see where it can be expensive owning 2-4 yorkies. And nobady can have just one.lol

yeah..we are in the city and our groomer is Jorge from Groomer Has it show!

Ellie May 05-19-2008 06:19 AM

If I did it the right way (clippers, grooming table...) it would be a couple hundred to start and then just shampoo after that. I skip all of that though and just use scissors. So I is probably less than $20 a year. Ellie's hair is unique though and as long as it is only about a centimeter long, I don't even have to brush it... So I don't really need expensive products.

aquinn 05-19-2008 08:48 AM

Do it myself now

Well, I tried the only two groomers I know of in my area, Petco and Petsmart and neither of them did a good job with Tucker in my opinion. Plus it was $50 a pop!

So now I just do it myself. I'm not sure what I spend on shampoos, but I always always always use conditioner! I need to make an investment in a grooming table and also some better brushes though.

valerieam 05-19-2008 11:13 AM

I have taken my yorkie (9 #) to Pet Smart and it was $34. I just took my 4 month old shih tsu/yorkie mix (4 #) and they charged me $43. She said it was more because he looked like a Shih Tsu. I don't get it. He didn't have long hair and didn't have any mats. I called and talked to the manager and he said they do charge by the breed.

mkawczak 05-19-2008 11:32 AM

Good question!!

What age do you start? I know every pups different. My Pongo, long haired Dashund, I wash and maintain, but I have him groomed/nails every 4-6 months. He gets brushed daily..quite a little shedder. But Aiden is my first Yorkie:aimeeyork He's black and tan, and has wirey coat. I need advise on a good condtioner. He' shiney, but wirey. Thanks in advance:)

myyorkies8 05-19-2008 09:01 PM

grooming

I own my own grooming salon and breed yorkies and shih-tzus and i charge 20-30 for both breeds. If they are not matted it's 20 and if it is show dog or matted 30. thats is the full package...butts,pads,nail trimming and grinding, ears, teeth, bath, trim and perfumed and pretty. and don't forget the Bow. sometimes i paint the nails and thats 3-5 dollars. but being a groomer i recomend if you can do it yourself you will save in the long run. i love doing it but i don't mind telling or showing people how to save them.

LoveMyJake 05-24-2008 06:49 PM

I have been learning to do it myself, and I am really enjoying it!! Mine get baths every week, and I have all kinds of different products because I like to experiment a little bit to see what works best. I find that the shampoos and conditioners last a good long while. I trim their faces as needed to keep the hair out of their eyes, about once a month. We trim nails about once a month or more often, if needed. I let Jake's hair grow longer in the winter because he tends to get cold easy. In the summer, I cut it myself. I'm not the best at it, but at least it looks nice and neat and he is comfy and cool in the summer. Hopefully, I'll get better as I do it more. Jackson is still young, so he hasn't needed a full cut yet. I've only had to trim him so far. I trim the hair on both their behinds as often as necessary to prevent anything getting caught in their har.

tlauw 08-05-2008 09:39 AM

you pay too little and the other pays too much @$75. The average MOBILE groomer in most states charges now with gas prices.....about $65. That would be a full groom. Brush demat some, (hydrosurge bath) conditioner, full body clippering and/or scissoring. Nails trimmed, ears cleaned, fluff dry. cologne optional and free kisses. Anti-static spray helps prevent tangles. I often use a product called The Coat Handler made by show dog Yorkie people. Awesome conditioner and non detergent shampoo. Senproco makes it. Available thru Ryans' Pet supply Phoenix, Az anyone can call and buy all pet supplies at the same price as groomers. I am a professional mobile groomer, as many of you know.

YorkieChick1 08-05-2008 10:09 AM

I was spending $140 a month on 3 yorkies, so I started grooming them myself. All the supplies, including a professional force air dryer, clippers, table, scissors cost me about $300 but I have made up the money already!! Plus I am not worried about them anymore, when they were at the groomer, I was a nervous wreck!!
