Complete Newbie needs some Grooming Help... Well I have had my baby Coco for about a week and I am so in love with her. I have breed and raised many Fox Terriers, but I have no experience with long haired dogs so I am looking for some help. Coco is just a puppy so there isn't much to grooming her now. Right now I am brushing her daily with a slicker brush little this one: http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c..._1908_13569053 I have been doing a lot of online research and I haven't very found an helpful guide, so I was thinking about picking up Yorkshire Terriers For Dummies. Please recommend some site or some Yorkie books. Thanks. Christy |

Having books dedicated to the breed is terrific (I have them too) but I think you will find answers to most of your questions here. It's great you are brushing her daily, you already know that the trick with the babies is to get them used to the grooming as soon as possible since they need a lot of grooming as their coat grows. I prefer the pin brush over the slicker myself plus the metal greyhound comb (the one with two different teeth spacing on one comb). You should also get an electric moustache clipper (for people) to trim the hair off the ears, paws and the bikini areas. |
you are on a good site to find everything you need to know...:D Welcome to YT! |

I would also start as soon as possible messing with her feet (so she'll let you trim her nails) and touching around her mouth so she'll get use to it when it comes time to brush her teeth. |
I have already brushed her teeth twice, she doesn't seem to like it over hate it. It is just a little hard because her mouth it small even for the smallest tooth brush. I do what to start trimming her nail myself. I have a lot problem with my boyfriend's Fox Terrier he fight me so bad I have to have his nail clipped by a professional. I am sure she will not give me the same fight she is so well behaved. |
Hi and I LOVE your user name !! :p When I got MY Chanel - I found this site helpful - she's also a member here http://www.yorkie.org/dogs/grooming_yorkies.html and of course the YTCA site - http://www.ytca.org/grooming_clips1.html then for Topknots - I love this site - http://www.yorkies4me.com/topknots.htm I skip the double band but this gives you a great visual on doing their hair when it gets longer |
